A talented Russian often undone by her emotions on court. Officially retired in August 2016, she has recently rejoined the tour without reaching her former level of success.
2010 Wimbledon and US Open finalist. That year was the height of her career, as she reached #2 on the WTA computer. Other highlights were
getting to the finals of the 2008 WTA Tour Championships and becoming a bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
A 4 time slam winner in doubles, twice in mixed (2004 US Open with Bob Byran and 2006 Wimbledon with Andy Ram); and twice in doubles in capturing the 2006 US Open beside Nathalie Dechy plus the 2012 Australian with fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Introduced to tennis at the age of six by her mother Natalia, who had been an Olympic bronze medalist in field hockey.
Earned two degrees (one from Russian State Academy of Physical Education, the second in international economic relations at Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Moscow) .
In August of 2016 Vera announced to the world a trifecta of news all at once: her retirement, a marriage, and the fact that she had recently become a mother to a daughter named Elina.
Vera returned to the tour in 2017. She has had limited success-an ITF title in Sharm El Sheikh in 2017 and a tour level doubles title in St. Petersburg.
