Draw Notes:

The event proper (which included the Men's US Doubles title) started on August 30. September 1 saw the first mixed matches go on court.

The entry of the Frenchmen known as "The Four Musketeers" adds spice and interest to the draw. This is also the first US Mixed for expat American Elizabeth Ryan.

Comments on names and players

Martha Carey called "Miss Carey by the NYT in mixed results but "Martha" in invitational doubles.
Martha Niles=Mrs Nat Niles Her son Nat Niles Jr (born circa 1913) plays in the father/son event with her husband.

Summary:

5,000 see the finals.

The Ryan/Borotra vs Mallory/Tilden semi was the match of the week. There is no real love lost between Ryan and Mallory. To add fuel Molla had won the US title recently by saving a match point vs Elizabeth in the final. Here at Brookline Jean Borotra errs again and again as his team drops the first set. Tilden threw himself seep across to cut off shots directed at Molla, the weakest volleyer of the four. But the "Bounding Basque" flashes about the court the rest of the match as the standard of play rose. Fans gave the quartet loud ovations throughout, with Ryan and Borotra barely coming through.
