Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

Dubai winners are clear, for the rest we try to find a solution now, I willl inform all managers about our decision as soon as possible :p

New Tournaments should not be affected by the database errors (or at least it can be fixed easily with a schedule change)..please ask for help if I am wrong about that :p

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

what I'm assuming is ill post SF results tomorrow, those who win will BOTH get final points?
you post the SF results as soon as you have time, everyone should have been able to send for the SF as the errors started a bit later only but check my previous post also for users who sent via email.

And about the finalists..as I said, we will announce our decision as soon as possible! :p
If you post the OOP or send a PM to all finalists that they should send for today, do it!!

and update your first page of the thread! :p

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

my idea is to make all the CH next week a 64 draw thing so no Q has to be played, and use the same picks from Monday for both R64 and R32 :shrug:
it is better then sending for 4 matches per round and it is better then qualies(or the whole thing) being canceled imo

ITF with Sunday Final

Monday=> Q1 and Q2 (if needed)
Tuesday => 1st round
Wednesday => 2nd round
Thursday => QF
Friday => SF
Sat/Sun => Final

ITF with Saturday Final

Monday => Q1 and 1st round
Tuesday => 2nd round
etc.

or with no Q needed only 1st round of MD on Monday!

I doubt it that there will be Challengers where two Q-rounds are needed!

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

100k Tokyo has two Q rounds IIRC :scratch: but still, like I said, a lot of rounds will be with 4 matches per round and that is just an unfair lottery :help:

#129 ·
Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

Tokyo has Sunday final and only one q-round with 8 players, so won´t be a problem at all.
Shrewsbury has Saturday final but not even a full MD yet, so also not a problem.
Zawade has Sunday final and only one q round also.

Taipei is only tournament with 2 q rounds but with Sunday final also, so we will just have to play two rounds at one day, either Monday or Tuesday but Taipei did not even start yet (the real tournament) so it would have been like that anyway.

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

already send PM to the managers about it:

Decision has been made,
Matches which got affected by the database errors, basically all finals, will be finished tomorrow.
If managers have all picks from 1st day of finals they should incl 1 match from Monday, if managers have all picks from 2nd day of the final they should include 2 matches from Monday..(make sure that you have 3 matches in total for the finals)

It does not matter from which tournament you take the matches from Monday, in ideal case it will be a Main Draw match but only if it is possible, otherwise a Q Match will do the job also.

Do you understand that you have changed the rule "How to send in picks:", rather, you complement it with the following paragraph:
If you forgot to write down the address e-TT, or not hope for your choices, then do not send them. The manager will make a new selection list.

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

Thanks Michael.

Just to make sure :

In Bendigo (doubles) , 1 player of each team has sent picks for the Final (Day 2). The winner looks pretty clear looking at the final result and their picks.
Do they have to send again or only singles match will be played ?

Quickly checked your thread, correct me if I am wrong:

03:02 | (1) salmon pants. /joeh37 (USA/GBR) vs. (4) Sandgroper Sam /Vitor BM (TLS/BRA) #SRs: 1-0

with the two senders from Sunday it should be:

04:03 | (1) salmon pants. /joeh37 (USA/GBR) vs. (4) Sandgroper Sam /Vitor BM (TLS/BRA) #SRs: 2-0

=> no chance for Sam/Vitor to win anymore anyway

No need to make them send for tomorrow in this case, result would have been same with no database errors! :)

Just singles, as you said ^^

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

I know this situation was a mess, but I find it really weird that if someone sent to the TT email, his picks do not count because not everyone did send there (happened to Zenith in the Limoges final).

I mean, we all know this is what we have to do in case of a database error. It's in every first post. If a team had 2 senders in Day 01, and the other had 1 sender, then the team with 2 should have an advantage (if their picks were correct).

This is one of the few cases someone would ever use the TT email, and it states clearly in the first post of every TT thread where someone should send in case of emergency. It's our (the players') responsibility to know the rules, and while that doesn't always happen, I don't think someone should be penalized for following what he or she is supposed to do which is basically what is happening here.

I accept the decision as this case was extreme, but if this were to happen again, I hope it is clear beforehand on what the outcome will be.

Not complaining as I know the board does a great job of trying to satisfy everyone and this was a case nobody foresaw, but it's something to consider clearing up if this were to ever happen again :)
Decisions we make, which are not based on written rules, will never satisfy everyone, that´s obvious.
There were tons of database errors in the past but the site usually only was not available for a few hours, so in this cases those who were able to send to the email address always had the advantage as we never gave non senders a second chance in those cases.

This weekend people did not have access to the site for over 30 hours, never happened before since I am a user, so at least for 8 years and managers also had no chance to update anything or post OOP etc.

So as you both said, this case was extreme and that´s why we decided to make them send for today but in all other cases those who were aware that there is the email emergency address always had the advantage.

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

IMO that should be in the written rules now that it has come up. It wouldn't make sense for something like this to happen again and for you guys to make another decision "not based on written rules." It should be clarified whether it is mandatory or optional to send to the TT email and if that changes after a certain amount of time, what that certain amount of time is.

We will try to find a solution for this and include something in the rules but in cases of database errors it just often depends on the situation, so it is tough to have one right rule only.
It surely is not a big problem to send via email if the board goes down at the end of the week at the Final days but imagine the board goes down at the first days of a slam and the manager would not be able to post the OOP for 32 matches or maybe even 48 matches and 128 people would send picks via email and everyone would send the matches in different order..I surely wouldn´t expect the manager of this slam to deal with such picks.

Can someone check the TT board email if Chris 84 sent there? Thanks

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

sounds really bad, but like...if TF is down, TT should stop until its back up. None of this email stuff..like no.. the website we play on is down, it's down, it ceases until it works again

its too hard to regulate with emails

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

In Taipei, I had to do a split OOP. Singles R1 matches doesn't start until later in the day and there is no set time for them to begin. The deadline on the OOP was set for when singles FQR matches were to begin. Can I accept singles R1 matches until the first one begins?

Hi board, me again..

At Taipei: Matches in the OOP for R1
The deadline was set at 10 AM local time. However, the first match for singles R1, is the second match after 10 AM. I sent at something like 10:02 AM. Are my picks allowed? Or will the deadline of 10 AM also count for Singles Round 1?

EDIT: what Doug, above me, said :p

OOP sadly states 1 deadline for both , so the picks should not be accepted.

HOWEVER

there is an off chance that the board might decide its a " wrong " deadline in which they will be

"If a manager put a "wrong" deadline and play already started before manager deadline is over, then all picks which are sent between the real deadline and the manager deadline will count as well but matches which already started won´t be counted.
Note that Tournament countback is not always useable in this case.
This rule won´t affect matches in which both players already sent their picks before the real deadline has passed, in this case all matches will count.
If the start of play is not defined exactly then deadline to send picks should be the time when the first match of the event starts.
"

but likely it's going to be a "The deadline said this time, no picks are accepted"

but just realized how poorly worded someone setting the wrong deadline versus lobbying for a better deadline is ... we should fix that :lol:

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

^Thanks for your input, Randy. Makes since what your saying. I just noticed that I could've/should've put a later deadline for singles R1. :shrug:

I didn't want to make a sole decision about this, because apparently I make the wrong ones when it comes to TT rules.

ther was no "not before" time for the 2nd match, that´s the problem, so the original deadline "10am" stands.

And no, you a later deadline for 1st round matches only would have made sense if the matches later would be "not before xx" matches, otherwise you always have to put deadline to that time when the first match starts...

and again no, you don´t make wrong decisions too often, the situation yesterday was unlucky for all of us :p

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

I don't think it works that way Randy, because in a tournament last month Cheda put 10am as the deadline, the real deadline was 9am, and my picks were accepted (I sent at 9.30am) but the matches which had already started didn't count. The point of the rule is that the original OOP deadline stands no matter what.

However in this case Doug has put a deadline which is somewhat correct, so it must stand.

That's my take :p

Re: "Ask the board" thread! Vol 2 ( List of current TT board members in the opening p

So if what I gather is right re: Hua Hin. If we used the updated OOP for both singles and doubles (not just doubles), I would've won. But because me and putrov both sent to the email, those were used for singles and the updated for doubles?

I think it should be strongly noted (maybe in each OOP) that if an emergency happens, send to the email. Considering I lost based on the original OOP, I can take it. But it stung having my first title taken away after I thought I swept :lol:

we are talking about this right now but as you read here in the thread before, it is not easy to have one strong rule for things like "database errors".
Usually we don´t give people a 2nd chance and those who sent to the email always have the advtange but in this case we made an exception as the board was down for like 30 hours, which did not happen for ages.

But yes, in this case you would have won with the "updated OOP" but as you and your opponent sent both to the email it was possible to finish the final based on the original OOP, which is the normal case obviously.

The situation was messy, due to the database errors and due to the fact that Doug misunderstood the message I posted (I am sorry myself that I did not write write it clear enough also), so it was indeed even more unlucky for you but I hope that things like that won´t happen too often obviously.

sorry guys but have to ask just to make sure and i dont wanna do double work :tears: so the rankings i should use for Chile are not up yet and i need to make EL (el maker doesn't work anymore :tears:) i will do it manually of course, no problem but what should i do? should i use the rankings of 9th November but the first deadline is tomorrow and for the final EL rankings of 16th November? (maybe a stupid question but it's been a tough week for me and my brain refuses to work in full this weekend :p)

Quick Q: In Antalya, there is no TT qualy draw. Tomorrow's matches on the OOP are only qualifying matches. Shouldn't the TT main draw start only on Tuesday, and quarterfinals become a 1-day affair? That's what I was told when I ran my US tourney...

yes, that´s correct!
Official Rule:
2-days QF: For tournaments with a 32 Player MD Field and 7 MD days (Monday-Sunday) we will have 2 days of QF.
So if Antalya has only QD matches tomorrow, which is right btw, Main Draw should start Tuesday with 1 day QF only.
