Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

Hi guys! I know that it is a bit early but I thought it would be a good idea to discuss Maria's potential goals at the USO this year. She is seeded 15 this year behind Ivanovic. The draw gets underway tomorrow ( I'm getting nervy now ). By the way this is my first thread I've opened to Maria Junior () So any critique is welcome.

Nothing to see here.

I expect Little Maria to get a tough first round opponent just like Wimbledon when she faced Laura Robson and Kiri got her clock cleaned. I bet Kiri ends up playing a powerhouse like Keys, Bouchard, Wickmayer, Venus or Petkovic in the first round. Maybe even Robson again. Or perhaps Hantuchova.

I hope a week off has helped Maria clean her game up. It has been a mess since Wimbledon. Especially her brittle serve.

A goal for Maria : retire and open a pizzeria in Corsica with Marion Bartoli. I'd visit them with pleasure during my next holidays.

It would be a miracle if she wins some matches at USO... Maybe she can get to R2 if she draws a qualifier

That pic above is only her R1 opponent so here is her full section of the draw. If you ask me its an okay draw if she gets past Wicky in R1 then she should have a few easy rounds but then she gets errani. It could be worse she could have got Serena but thankfully she avoids that this year.

Nothing to see here.

Damn I was right. But this is one time I wish I was wrong and that Kiri had a qualifier in round 1. I actually forgot to include Mattek - Sands as possible first round opponent for Maria. I thought that was possible. So Wickmayer it is. This is a winnable match for Kiri if she plays well and serves okay. But this match with Yanina will be a war because she's big and strong and has heavy topspin. I think this is a third round slam match in the first round. The question is which Kiri will show up the good Kiri or the bad Kiri? Her form since Wimbledon has been terrible. I hope she can find her form for Wickmayer. But Maria's serve is such a worry at the moment. I hope something can spark her game. She needs it. Losing in the first round 2 slams in a row after finally making the top 10 would maker her quickie appearance in the top 10 look weak. This is a must win for Kiri.

Re: Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

Well, Makiri is even 1-all against Yanina, but 1-all on hardcourt, having beat her at the AO earlier this year in straight sets.

If she wins this, she will most likely defend her third round points from last year, but I see her getting upset by Simona.

Re: Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

OK she won't even reach R2. At least, for europeans, we won't have to eventually go to bed too late because Maria is playing.

And Sugarpova has withdrawn, and Federer is a crappy old player, and Tsonga is injured. I won't even watch this uninteresting (for me) USO

Poor Fedex gets Nadull again so he is having a real rough time right now, as for maria she should really get to R4 at least but this F***ing injury is spoiling her last part of the season .

What the hell Kiri isn't leaving for Flushing Meadows until the weekend? She should have been there all week since she wasn't defending her points in New Haven. Maria could be getting used to the courts at the U.S. Open, receiving treatment for her injuries and practicing well to be ready for the Open and Wickmayer in round 1 in a couple of days. But no she was in D.C. all week living her life. That's fine. It is her choice afterall. But that won't exactly fix her struggling serve that is hurting her in matches.

Re: Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

Hi guys!!

ok, finally it's time for the US Open! Finally? Well, I'm not quite sure if I'm looking forward to it or not.

Maria was in big trouble with her serve lately, and if she couldn't fix that in the meantime, she probably won't get over the Wickmayer hurdle.

Wickmayer is a tough opponent for Kiri, she lost to her in a winneable match at Eastbourne, and had to be in great shape to beat her in two really close sets at the Australian Open at the beginning of the season.

to be honest, I can't give a prediction..I also heard that Wickmayer didn't win a lot since she beat Kiri on grass..

..and IF Kiri should win, then there is Halep in R2? Wow, kind of an unlucky draw again. Halep is doing great over the last few weeks, she has the potential to go very deep at this year's USO.

do you think we are going to see a sream of Kiri's R1 match? would she play on monday? I would love to see it..at least one match with Kiri

on Twitter, Kiri wrote that she is ready as always. Let's see

Maria Kirilenko

...olympic bronze medalist...

Re: Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

Final major of the year indeed, I am hoping that Maria Jr has recovered from that cursed injury . Wickmayer's match is winnable but we have to see how maria is serving and playing first.

Re: Maria up in NYC - US Open 2013

Well, this run of lousy play began with losing a winnable match against Wickmayer at Eastbourne, so hopefully the lousy play ends vs. Wickmayer too. Wickmayer is certainly a relatively tough draw for R1, but Wickmayer's been playing far worse than Kiri since their last meeting.

As for Halep, she's had a great Cincy & New Haven, and a few other great tournaments this year, but she's still almost never pulled it together for the Slams. So certainly not the easiest potential R3, but not horribly unluckly either, if Kiri were to advance that far.
