Maria in Madrid

No thread yet?
It was such an unlucky draw, she gets Klara Zakopalova in R1, we all know it's an horrible match-up for Maria, that loss against her in Miami was a tough one to suffer.
Even worse, if Kiri manages to beat her and survives R2, Serena would probably be the next opponent.
In a few words, what a mess.

Re: Maria in Madrid

Yeah, bad, bad match-up. Makiri is even 3-all against Klara, but has lost the last three matches, including one that was part of Klara's legendary run in French Open last year.

Makiri has only second-round points to defend here, so two wins will given her added ranking points.

Re: Maria in Madrid

Hi Kiri Fans, first of all, I would like to inform you that I made a new account. I didn't like my old username anymore, and since you can't edit that, I simply created a new profile
So, you may know as "MaKiri rulezzz", but from now on, I will only post with this account
I still have to add a signature, but it isn't possible yet, don't know why...maybe I will have to make some posts before

now, back to topic

What an unlucky draw for Kiri again, damn.
Zakopalova in R1 is so tricky, especially because it apparently is a bad match-up for Maria.
We finally want to see a revenge! If she can do that, then let's see what's going to happen in the next rounds

Davai Kiri!!!

Actually you can change your username:

oh, thank you! I'll take a closer look later, but I guess I'll continue with this new account

Maria's R1 match is scheduled as the last one (out of 5) on court "Pista 5", start is at 11:00 AM
I guess there won't be a stream...

Re: Maria in Madrid

6-3 2-1, then Zakopalova retired, huge win for Maria, I really did not expected it.

Re: Maria in Madrid

Kiri finally passes the Zakopalova hurdle and defends her R2 points from last year at least
Next is Mladenovic or Soler-Espinosa, Maria will play her next match on Tuesday

Yeah, it's easy to change your username. Also you should keep your old account for posterity and to let newbies know you're a senior poster

Re: Maria in Madrid

I wish the win hadn't come in a retirement, but it is what it is.

She's defended her points. Kristina or Silvia next.

Re: Maria in Madrid

Now she must win her R2 against a lower class player. However, Mladenovic is on the rise and Soler-Espinoza is at home, so both are dangerous. Maria has to be focused (and she also should go back to her natural hair color).

Possible R3 is against the Behemoth* so I just ask Maria to win one more match in Madrid and it would be a good tournament.

*French Wiki about Behemoth:

Le mot est la forme plurielle de (bəhēmāh: désigne en hébreu biblique les animaux domestiques, le bétail ; en arabe : بھيمة bahimah, plur. بهائم bahaëm), mais c'est un pluralis excellentiae, une méthode hébraïque pour exprimer la grandeur en "pluralisant" le nom (cf. Elohim), ce qui indique que le Béhémoth est la plus grande et puissante créature terrestre.

The last sentence means the Behemoth is the biggest and most powerful creature on earth

Well, not Maria's fault, isn't it?
Furthermore, she withdrew so many time during her career that, in my opinion, it's not wrong at all if sometimes she can get an "easy" win, like yesterday.
