Carlsbad was just a two-day event:
sf
Evert d Shriver 64 63
Mandlikova def Jaeger 67 63 64

f: Evert won 64 63
3rd place play-off Shriver won 63 62

Avon Futures Champs:

- these were held in Oklahoma acc to World of Tennis, not Chicago???

The sf and final were preceded by a round robin.
In Jaeger's group, there were:
Roberta McCallum, Lucia Romanov and Peanut Louie.
Louie lost to Jaeger in the rr (no score) as well as 64 63 in the sf but that's the only result I can find.

- this should be an edit of the above but I screwed up!

Looking through these results the French Open 1982 semi against Chris is a bit of a surprise. Did anyone see this match? Was everything OK with Chris or was Andrea just too good? Just seems a bit of a surprise to see Chris lose so easily on clay, especially in a Slam semi.

Here's a snippet of the Sports Illustrated article on the 1982 French Open.....

"Actually, Navratilova, who now has won eight of nine tournaments, 42 of 43 matches and 85 of 96 sets this year in a rousing start toward the Grand Slam, might have thanked Jaeger for beating Chris Evert Lloyd 6-3 6-1 in the semi-final. It was as desultory a clay-court performance as Evert Lloyd has ever been party to. Maybe she wanted to concentrate on rooting for her husband John home in the mixed. (He reached the final with Wendy Turnbull.) Or perhaps, after so many years at the top, Evert Lloyd needs more than steady diet of Palooka-ettes in preparation for her matches against the three or four women capable of winning a major tournament. In one span against Jaeger, Evert Lloyd lost 30 of 39 points, 25 of them on unforced errors."

From "Inside Women's tennis", vol. 6, n°12, June 18, 1982
"Chris played her worst match in years, bowing out 63 61 to the athletic Andrea. She made so many unforced errors, that for many observers, it seemed as if the net must have been too high. "I played badly but Andrea played aggressively, and she was consistent too", said the gracious loser".

rolling her way to the French final in 82, Andrea had lost only 10 games in 5 matches (she had a 1st rd bye)... Impressive!

Right Hanafan; Evert might not have played her best Tennis BUT Andrea played some of her best Tennis during that fortnight at the french 82 losing hardly any games to anybody. Raquel: Jaeger was quit confident vs. Evert in 82 as she had beaten her in Oakland in 2 sets and in Hilton Head also; so the outcome wasn,t that much of a surprise.

In 1982 Evert beqt Jaeger in the finals of Tokyo 61 75, I have the information it was the lions cup, I guess an exhibition? Has anyone further results of that please ? The same goes for Tokyo 1983, Evert beat Jaeger in the semis 63 63, probably Gunze? Any further results ?
Andrea got to the doubles final in Marco Island 1984, one of her last tournaments as a top player. Has someone got the single draw to see wheather she joined the singles there at all ?

Loving the Palooka-ettes quote!
I saw the 1982 Oakland match vs. Evert in person and it was very close, so I was shocked when AJ killed her in the French semis later that year. Chris just simply never lost like that on clay. When Hana beat her the previous year in the same round, it was a struggle even though it was straight sets.

Robert1: The sf results for the 82 Lion's Cup were Evert def Bunge 62 60 and Jaeger def Hanika 62 61. Hanika beat Bunge 75 62 for third place. World of Tennis 83 has the final result as 63 62 to Evert

Jaeger lost to Evert 61 75 in the 1983 Lion's Cup, before Evert lost to Navratilova 62 62 in the final. Navratilova had beaten Temesvari 63 63 in the other semi.

BTW, Jaeger retired to K. Jordan at 3-5 down in the 82 Gunze Tournament at Kobe. Jordan lost the final to Austin 63 61 (Austin def def Shriver 75 36 63 in the other semi)

Re your 63 63 result in 83, do you have any other info (dates, etc?).

I'm pretty sure Jaeger didn't play the Marco Island singles. Check out the results on tennis corner.

I've checked again the draw of Avon Cup-Marco Island '84, and I confirm you that Andrea was not in the singles draw, only doubles. (Source : IWT - well Inside women's Tennis).

thanks hanafan, I just went to tennicornor, too Strange that she only played doubles. Maybe an injury hindered her, but she could still play a few doubles matches, I guess...
I will get back to u about the tokyo 83 next week Andy, when I get to my parents house where some of the books are. That Kobe seemed to be a very good event to be for Austin in 1982, seems like it was one of the very few perfrormances that can match her results from her prime 3 years 79 to 81. After beeing out for several month she must have thought being back on track again after Kobe / which she was not.

Los Angeles (Olympics) Jaeger-Scheuer 1R 2:6,6:2,6:3
Los Angeles (Olympics) Paradis-Jaeger 2R w.o.

Robert - A couple of other results from 84:

25/8 July Sydney Australian Women's indoor:
RR:Jaeger lost Evert 64 62, lost Turnbull 62 63, def. Anne White 62 64

2/4 April Ingelwood CA:
Final Evert def Jaeger 61 61 (there was a thrid place play-off between Bunge and Bonder which Bunge won 76 62, so I imagine Jaeger beat one of them in the semis).
