The demonization of ANNA

ANNA has been my #3 fav behInd VENUS and SERENA.
She has a good, aggressive game, plays lots of tournaments and is always in good condition.

However, the media has latched on to ANNA like a pit bull on a hot steak and won't let go. The media will complain about ANNA being photographed excessively, by their OWN photogs and will then creat a seperate site for her on their tennis web sites (foxsports.com, cspsports.com) to demonstrate how much ANNA is photographed. How insane.

ANNA spends too much time modeling. The little Russian does the calendar shoot, which is the most extensive, during the tennis off season and it does not take more than 5 days. She could literally do interviews and promos 24 hours a day, but chooses to do as she has said many times, and that is to hone her game and win those elusive titles.

ANNA does seem to be under a curse as far as not having won a title as well as she plays. Much lower ranked players, whom she has beaten, has won a title or two and Miss K's win is still out of reach. Her curse is that she can not beat 2 or 3 top ten players in succession, something 98% of the tour fails to do, in order to win a tournament.

Eventually the right draw will come and ANNA will get that first, of what will be several, title and then, of course, the media will be on her ass to snag a Grand Slam.

Accurate post. Well said Tee.

The media are the ones who are "promoting" her, (not like she can't do it on her own), but then they're also the ones who are saying she's more of a model on court than a tennis player.

And Anna plays as much as anyone, more than a few in fact. She's one of the most dedicated players on the tour. She's gives everything to her game of tennis. The only difference between her and some of the other players, is that she's THAT much better looking, and a personality whom so many guys drool over. So she does things on the side, whats wrong with that? And like you said, its not even that much. And during the off season.

Anna is improving all the time, in my opinion, and its not going to be long before she CAN pull off wins over 3-4 top players in a row, and take a title.

And yes, you're right. The media will then criticise her for hot winning a slam yet, but before we know it, Anna will have won one of those too!

Its all a matter of time for Anna. Throw in a tiny bit of luck of the draw, and just witness how far she'll go.

Tee, you hit it right on the nose! I agree with everything you said. I think that the media definetly are a cause to why Anna hasn't won a title. I think Anna is jynxed by them. I also think that Anna's title is slowly by surely coming within reach, and I think once she jumps that high hurdle and wins a title, I think all other hurdles will seem to get shorter and short, and Anna will start winning more titles.

ANNA does seem to be playing the matches a little tougher this year than in the past, so I think she will continue to do well in higher Tier events and will evenyually snag that Tier II or III tournament as well.
