What If!?: Lenglen Vs Wills....

ANOTHER WHAT IF THOUGHTS: as we all know lenglen played wills only once in the south of france in cannes in 1927, with lenglen winning 6-3, 8-6 (which was considered unbelievably close for anyone to play lenglen this tough)...

i've read that many if not most thought if wills had won that second set, that either lenglen would have defaulted due to "illness" or that wills would have won having more energy and strength with youth in her favor?...

lenglen was in her prime or perhaps even a bit past it.. wills not quite at her prime although by 1926 she had won already 3 u.s.nationals titles and was considered the best in the world that is in her world not the whole world....

i wonder though, what if they HAD ONLY PLAYED THIS 1 match but it was 1) on a different surface? what if they met only once on the grass at wimbledon? 2) or they met only once played on a cement/hard court in california?....what was lenglen's worst surface, and best and vice versa with wills? did lenglen ever play on cement/hard court? what would have been the most NEUTRAL surface for them to play on? a hard court? a indoor carpet? surely at their 1 meeting, clay DID NOT favor wills and did indeed favor lenglen, not to mention they played in france and basically the home club of lenglen, not to mention the overwhelming crowd support and favoritism for lenglen....

i wonder what the result would have been? worse or better for wills depending on what surface?...

of course, there are the opposing views on what if lenglen and wills had played frequently what would have happened? there are those who claim lenglen was simply a genius and the best of all time (until the modern game?) and she would have won most of the time against a growing emerging wills.. there's the other side, that wills with her power game would eventually turn the tide and won the head to head total due to her greater strength and power and stamina and youth.. wills and her power game being "modern" and overcoming the days and playing style of the placement and tactics of a passing bygone era play of even the genius of lenglen?...
