Can someone identify these players?

Apparently the Pathé productions couldn't, but maybe some Past specialists here? They seem to compete seriously, despite serving underhand at times like many players of the day.

I guess that, since we know it's Wimbledon footage from 1910 to 1919, we have to check the results pages and compare with every picture available of every player. Shouldn't be so hard, they weren't so many to compete in those times.

I will take a look at this tonight. Due to the war we're really talking about 1910 to 1914 and then 1919.

Re: Can someone identify these players?

When I tried to look at Pathe tonight I got error messages. Hmmmphhh

Another Pathe clip labeled Women's tennis 1910-1919 started off with a very easy to recognize (to me) Elizabeth Ryan.

Here is the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h30-jiuHQCc

Re: Can someone identify these players?

The player at 1:05 may well be Ethel Larcombe.

Perhaps we can get shots of Larcombe and compare.

Why do I guess this?

Larcombe was known for her hard to return "corkscrew" serve-delivered underhanded!

Hearing of an underhanded serve makes me think of patty-cake, but seeing a good underhanded serve on film is eyeopening to say the least.

Re: Can someone identify these players?

Thank you Rollo. I will also look further trying to find out who those players are. From observing Ethel Thomson Larcombe's pictures, she doesn't look like her.

First problem we have is that, apparently, we're not so sure this was at Wimbledon! That complicates the thing.

Re: Can someone identify these players?

Based on pictures observation alone (which is certainly not enough but could be a start), I'd say this player serving underhand at 1:00 looks like Winifred Ramsey (Geraldine Beamish). So it'd be helpful to know if she was serving underhand in 1910 or after. In 1910 she lost first round to one M. Messom in Wimbledon (who could be the player before on the movie, since I have the impression we have two players facing each other judging from the same background - and same ballkid sit behind!).
