What do you think Jenns response to the French will be?

Petrova is very dangerous, she played completley out of her skin today, brilliant tennis, the best she has every played. Just like did Zveraveranerva, whatever the spelling, against Venus did.

They weren't the favourites the two Russians. But, they were so hungrey. I think you could really tell that in the thrid set. When Jen was going for the second she was really trying her best, shouting, fist pumps, very strong indications of she was going to win the second set. However, in the third, when she got the break there was no big reaction. In a way she probably thought, you know this will be a routine third set, a couple of breaks and i'll get it. I personally thought she had it at 2-0 up after saving those break points. I thought it was gonna be like the Shaugnessy match that she had played in Miami, winning 4-6 7-6 6-4. But then she switched off, she went for too much and gifted Petrova 2-1, on her service game. Jen just went for ridiculous shots and made 4 quick unforced erros. Thats when she should of really put the pressure on. Making Petrova play, trying to get to breaks, but instead stopped. Then it was one of the typical Jen loses her concentration games and rushes. Another 4 unforced erros and Petrova was up. Then fives striaght games and Jen was 2-5 behind, then the concentration kicked in again. You could see Jenn going for more after that. at 3-5, she should have been 0-30up, but missed to shots. If she had of been, Petrova didn't have enough big match experience and the match probably would of had a different outcome, most probaly around 8-6, 9-7 result.

I think this lose was excellent for Capriati. She lost to an upcoming star, lets face it Petrova was awesome and in my opionin played the best tennis probably of her career this year and will probaly be in the semis, or even the final if she plays the out of form Clijisters. But.. Petrova has to maintain this win, she has to progress after this win. Something that may not happen. Unlike us fans, Petrova fans don't have the consiensity of the results to celbrate that we have. You have proably seen it so many times, players have an outstanding week and win, like Rubin in L.A, Sugiyama in Scottdale and even Felix Mantillia in Rome. Its just one of those things.

The reason this lose is so good for Jenn is because it will piss Jenn off, and with Eastbourne coming up, I doubt Lindsay will play due to her foot injury, I think a focoused Jenn should win it. No big names, a big tourdament giving her confidence. I also hope she carries on working with John Mac, this would be great for her.

After this countinue streak of close three set loses, excpect Jenn to respond.(Hopefully the way Serena responed when it happened to her in 2001)
Lets just wait and see....

(Shit, that was a long report.)

As much as I'd like to think that we can all just move on from it, I can't help but feel a little disappointed about it all and I feel Jen is the same. Bottom line is that she is fitter now than she has been for a long time. Sadly though, she's still mentally loose. For Jen to have put in all the effort it took to get in such great shape and yet fall very short of her expectations and hopes will hurt her. How she responds will be crucial. If she does what we all want, she'll be mad and play the grass season with a renewed hunger and be unstoppable. Alternatively, will she beat herself up and slack for a bit?

I'd love to think that Jen has it in her to come back and fight for everything and I know better than to count her out of anything. Nonetheless, I still view the French as Jen's best chance to win a Slam and no doubt she was in the shape to win this year.

One thing to bear in mind, I saw a thread in GM about Jen slumping with reference to her ranking. Given that she lost about 1000 points in Oz, of course she'll suffer. Yet also consider that in the rest of the season she has little to defend, unlike others. If Jen can stay in shape and keep her head, she could move back up the rankings, which may prove to have a psychological impact on the tour.

I hate to be the nay-sayer here, but this has got to hurt mentally and I don't think she is going to bounce back the way we wouldl like to see her do. You just get so damn tired of feeling mentally drained that no matter what you do, it just doesn't get better.

I hope to hell I'm wrong, but I think this might start a slight downslide until the summer hardcourt season kicks in. Even then, I don't think were gonna see her up to par until around the U.S. Open.

Like I've said, I hope I'm wrong...but one has to think....maybe.

I don't think losing to Petrova is "good" for Jen. I think it is bad!
Yes, she will be angree, but it is not what Jen needs right now. She needs to put her mind in quit place, take a look at her game from above, separate facts and feelings, and make some changes!
She had a chance to be angree almost all of last year, and it did not do it.
If she will continue to play as she does now, under good conditions we will see again good tennis from Jen and more 3 set loosing to top or not so top players. Is this what you want to see?
I want to see some constructive changes!

Long time ago, on first day of my first College, very old and smart professor said to us - you will not learn everything here you need for the rest of your life, but you will learn how to learn every day!
This is what Jen needs right now, be able to learn something new, and turn things around!

But, this is my opinion and I can be wrong :-)

Jen's not ready to hang up the raquet yet, not even close to it. I think she is trying to add other elements to her game ( like coming to the net more), it is just taking some time. I think it is good that she is easing into changing her style of play than, say, doing like what Dokic is doing.... going for major change and slumping big time.

dokic,dokic...now her changement is not doing well..she's not winning a match...that's a bit disapointing...anyway,I think Jen has to be more aggressive and do her game in spite of her opponent...I want her to make the game and not the contrary!

I think Jen's results at Eastbourne will be very important. If she can rebound there and play well then I think she will feel more confident.

Im Not one to loose faith believe me i barrack for one of the most underachieving football sides in all of Australia but what the hell is going on with Jennifer how on earth did she loose this match i dont understand how someone of her talent can wip somebodys arse 6-1 6-2 for example and then come out and loose in three sets to someone she is expecteded to beat comfortably if she is in good form and the fittest she has been for a while why these 3 set loses all the time maybe im just frustrated that she hasn't won a tournement in a while but if she doesn;t turn her form around soon this could be the beginning of the end.

Im sorry guy's i guess im just angry and frustrated im not going to loose faith just yet someone reasure me or something.

She will always be no. 1 in my heart

Please Jenn i know you can do it lets win a Tournement soon
