I saw this match - and both players were just out hitting around for show. Monica hit all her passing shots right to Serena to let her volley them away. You can tell Monica was just going out there to do what she said she would do - and to test out her foot and get a confirmation for herself that her foot is not ready. Monica was a good sport to go out there still injured and let Serena beat her. They were laughing and talking during the ceremony. Monica looked to have a good time - but she was not there to play hard. Thank God! Because we want her healthy and ready for a real tournament as soon as possible!!!!

THANK you, for that report R&J! I was a little concerned by another poster's comments (in General Messages) that said the balls were 'flying past Monica' and that she 'didn't move'.... Didn't like the sound of that!

Now, will she be back next week? Or will we have to drag ourselves through the whole clay court season without her until the French???

Well she is scheduled to play the Bausch & Lomb Championships
April 14-20, 2003 in Amelia Island, Florida. But who can say if she'll play or not. That foot might not be ready yet.
Then she is scheduled to play the Italian Open May 12-17, 2003 in Rome, Italy. Now if she cant play the Baush & Lomb - I sure hope she can play the Italian Open to get a warm up before the French.

The JP Morgan singles exhibition was good - wasnt a singles match up where both players just slugged it out. Serena knew Monica was hurt and the FCC hinged on how her foot felt. Serena was greatful that Monica still decided to fufill her commintment and play - even though she was hurt. So they just hit around for show - Monica was hitting shots right to Serena - Serena was dumping alot of returns in the net. They were laughing it up and having a nice hitting practice. The crowd loved it - right after the singles, Monica must have said to someone, "pull in Brenda for doubles - and I need to pull out of FCC - My foot is not ready." just speculation of course. But as soon as they were done - they switched the doubles line up and Monica wanted to do the chair umpire for the doubles match. And we heard in the news about that time - that Monica had withdrawn from the FCC.
So hopefully we will see her next at the Baush & Lomb tournament!!!

Ronny & I love this weather also - since we are tennis players - it's nice to have nice sunny days to go play instead of the usual cold and windy that we have been having. It has been warm here for a few weeks now!

The sun is back!!!!!!! Lets hope it stays this way all through the Bausch & Lomb Championships!!!!!!!!!!!!
