Hilde was born in what was then Bohemia, but her family moved to Vienna in 1922 when she was a child. There was confusion among some sources about her year of birth (1912 had been suggested) but her obituary makes it clear the 1915 date is correct. She had success in international skiing competitions as well as at tennis. In fact skiing took first place until the 1940s.
Despite the move to Vienna Hilde still competed for Czechoslovakia as late as 1936, when she represented that nation in the Winter Olympic Games as Hilde Walterova. After that date she represented Austria or Austria as part of the Greater German Reich after the 1938.
Her husband. whom she wed in November of 1939, was a master baker.
Ranked #4 in Germany for 1941-the list gives Vienna as her home town.

From 1947 to 1949 Hilde played at the Wimbledon and in 1948 participated in the French.
In 1950, Hilde, Frtiz and their son Michael emigrated to Canada, where Hilde had some more success in tennis tournaments. She was ranked #1 in Canada in 1953. Fritz established his own bakery, which blossomed into a chain of bakeries, making the family wealthy. In later life Hilde and Fritz began to breed horses for harness racing.
