Sacramento Central Californian Champs

Do any of you guys have any other results for the Central Californian Champs - played around May - during the 1958-70 period? I have:
1958-60 zilcho
1961: dilemma: Caldwell bt Moffitt-King in final, no score or A. Miller bt Gerry Carter 75 61. Which is it?
1962 zilcho
1963 Danilovich bt Casals 62 61
1964 zilcho
1965 Casals bt Harter 46 64 62
1966-7 zilcho
1968 Denise Carter bt Bailey 75 63
1969 zilcho
1970 Richey bt Carter 108 26 63
There are a few big US names among the winners!

Firstly according to the 1962 USLTA yearbook Caldwell defeated King for the 1961 title. I have seen errors in this publication before so I dont know if this is right.

Secondly the US Hard Court Champs was played in Sacramento during this period and I think the tournaments would have been combined. The Casals result you have is the same result I have for the US HC final that year. So if this is so:
1964 Harter def. Blake 61 60
1967 Bartkowicz def. Ziegenfuss 64 64
1969 Pande def. Kemmer 75 64

I might be wrong though.

Re: Sacramento Central Californian Champs

My understanding is that the U.S. Hard Court Championships of 1960 and 1966 were played in La Jolla, California (near San Diego). Is it your understanding that the site of this tournament changed year-to-year?

Re: Sacramento Central Californian Champs

Brilliant, Andrewtas. They (USHC + Central Cal results/dates) fit together so well that this explanation seems not only plausibe but blindingly obvious. I wonder if the La Jolla years that Austinrunner mentioned also carried double title status: it would make serious sense.

Re: Sacramento Central Californian Champs

Maybe this complicates things but I'm pretty sure Darlene Hard won the National Hardcourts held at La Jolla in December 1963.

Margaret Thatcher - Michele Bachmann two strong women of our time.

Re: Sacramento Central Californian Champs

Andy T, I seriously doubt that a tournament held in southern California (La Jolla) would double as the Central California sectional championships.

Chris, you are right. Hard was the top seed. She defeated Tory Fretz in the final 6-1, 8-6.

Re: Sacramento Central Californian Champs

Just cross checked the two events and found that the US HC was held in La Jolla in 58,60,61, 63,66, & 68 (almost always in December). We know that Central Cal./Sacramento happened in 61, 63 & 68 so that backs up your comments, austinrunner.
