Re: Anna's Trip To Doha Journal Entry

Off to Doha

Happy New Year!!

I can't believe how quickly 2007 went by.... Hope all of you had a great New Year!

I am starting off the year with a trip to Qatar for an appearance at a PGA tour event in Doha. I have never been to a Professional Golf Tournament before, so I am looking forward to seeing what it's all about, and in being around such great athletes.

I am going to be doing a lot of press to help promote the event, and will be mingling with the other players and participating in a few meet and greets. There is also a big sponsor/player party that same evening, with more press and photos. Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker will also be at the event, so I can't wait to catch up with them!

On another note, we are working hard to get the new website up and running soon, we are just making a few changes here and there because I want it to be perfect!!

I will keep you guys posted on the website progress as we get closer, and will be in touch in February with my upcoming travel plans.

Take care!

Anna

Anna, Bipasha and Shilpa to add glamour
Published: Friday, 25 January, 2008, 02:08 AM Doha Time

Anna Kournikova, Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty will be the guests of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters today

Former tennis player and glamour queen Anna Kournikova will add a healthy slice of glamour when she joins a host of international celebrities in Doha today at the 2008 Commercialbank Qatar Masters.
Kournikova, who retired from the ladies’ tour in 2003, has jetted in with Bollywood stars Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha Basu, singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia, actor Omar Sharif and US sprinter Carl Lewis.
Like the six celebrities who played in the pre-event Rolex Pro-Am, Kournikova has accepted an invitation from title sponsors Commercialbank and is sure to be as great an attraction for sports fans.
Although she never won a singles tournament, 26 year-old Kournikova did claim two Australian Open ladies doubles titles with Switzerland’s Martina Hingis in 1999 and 2002, while her celebrity status made her one of the best known tennis players worldwide.
Andrew Stevens, Group CEO of Commercialbank, title sponsors of the tournament, said the celebrity invites will take the event to an even greater audience.
”Thanks to the success of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and the Qatar Masters tennis tournament, more and more people have become aware of the city of Doha and what Qatar has to offer in terms of sporting attractions,” he said.
“The city’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics is a bold and visionary move that we aim to showcase to our celebrity guests like Anna Kournikova.”
With $2.5 million in prize-money, the 2008 Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Presented by Dolphin Energy, is the richest event in the 11 years the PGA European Tour has been visiting the Gulf state.
Kournikova and the other international icons from the worlds of sport and entertainment have been invited to Doha Golf Club as part of the celebrations around the 11th staging of the event where entry to the public is free of charge.
