Martina's injuries - When will they end?
Inflammation in the foot: Hingis must not play the the French Open!
BY STEFAN NAEGELI
ZURICH - Martina Hingis (21) must do without the French open: The inflammation in the left foot is worse than feared.
At least four to six weeks, Martina expects. "not only is strongly inflamed the foot tendons, but the whole heel", diagnoses Dr. Heinz Buehlmann, the private physician of Martina. "in addition, the knee is swelled, and even the hip is inflamed."
Martina is permitted only to bicycle and make light gymnastic exercises. The inflammation is in accordance with Buehlmann one of the worst sportsman injuries at all. "the soccer player Michael Zorc of Dortmund failed end of the 90's because of such an inflammation during 7 months!"
Buehlmann judges Martina's renewed injury in such a way: "now she must have patience and not force training too early. Otherwise the danger exists that the injury becomes chronic." This could mean the career end of Martina Hingis in the worst case!
The same foot injury suffered Martina already 1999. A cause: the shoes of the sponsor at that time Tacchini. That were according to Buehlmann no correct sport shoes, but rather Martina has never might wear summer leisure shoes "those ", says Buehlmann. "property possible that the current injury is still connected with these shoes."
Lately Martinas injuries accumulate themselves up. Buehlmann: "debt are the many tournaments and the large loads. It remains hardly time for the regeneration."
Indian Wells 2002
The wrist of the right impact arm is inflamed. Private physician Dr. Heinz Buehlmann travels to America and treats Martina with Akupunktur. The pain disappears again.
Martina plays despite pulling in the lower part of the back in Wimbledon. And loses therefore already in the first round.
Riding accident, April 1997
In a riding accident the cross volume of the left knee is marked out. Martina must pausieren several weeks. Comeback with the French open, where it loses only in the final against Iva Majoli.
Inflammation in the foot
Strong inflammation in the left foot. Probably causes by wrong footwear of Tacchini. Already at that time the similar injury as now!
Inflammation in the foot
Not only the foot is ignited, the whole left side. One of the heaviest sportsman injuries at all. Martina precipitates for four to six weeks. French open ade - whether it is enough for Wimbledon?
San Diego, July 2001
Martina cures its foot at home in its wahlheimat Saddlebrook, Florida. Refusal for the tournament in Toronto.
Martina cracks itself the foot, which tears both external volumes and caps - season end, operation. The heaviest setback in their career.
I don't think I can ever bear to hear Pam Shriver going on and on about how Martina just held the #1 ranking by "remaining injury free". As if she was not playing through pain sometimes. She sacrificed a lot for her tennis. I think she should take the rest of the year off and just focus solely on being healthy.
marti should come back at around the usopen or during the indoors season where her ranking should still earn her a top 16 seed.
she would still be sitting nicely in the top 10 even if she skips the whole hardcourt season.
A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.
She won't play with this injury. The doctor said that she had to have patience and forcing anything too soon could cause the injury to be cronic. I think Martina trusts this doctor very much because he was the one to operate on her injured ankle.
I agree, Bella. I'm starting to get tired of everyone going on and on about Martina's drop in ranking.
Anyway, I just can't get myself to accept the fact that Martina, more than likely, will not be playing Roland Garros. I can't imagine watching a Grand Slam without her, because it won't be the same.
Get better soon, Martina!! It definetly is a jinx on Martina to have this reoccuring injury. Last year the talk was how Martina remained so high in ranks because of her consistency and escape from injuries...now this. So sad!
Very sad, although I'm not ruling it out completely, this is the only news we've heard and it's not official. Although if she has to skip the French, then it's better in the long run for her, if it means getting rid of the injury, hopefully she'll be back in time for Wimbledon, still got 2 months before then.
Her ranking will drop after the French if she misses it, but only a little, she'll go no lower than 9th. Remember as well, she has practically no points to defend for the rest of the year, except for the US Open, where as all the other players have a lot of points to defend.
Get well soon Marti , just isn't the same without you.
