First MRI tomorrow morning

I know this should probably be in the "Non-Tennis" forum, but since I know more people here (and even met quite a few personally), I wanted to let you guys (and girls) know I'm going for my first MRI tomorrow morning. I haven't played tennis since July 5th, and have been forced to keep my right hand busy in other ways these past few weeks...

Seriously, the x-ray didn't show much except for swelling and the possibility of a meniscus tear, which should show up on the MRI. Anyone here been through this? If it's a minor tear, is it possible to just play through it, or is this the start of a weakened left knee to compliment my weakened forehand and weakened serve and weakened spirit?

P.S.- I HATE GOING TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.

ooo, rollo, i used that just the other day. "How'd you play?" my response: "It was very amelia 1981." ...without bothering to explain, of course, leaving the poor creature miffed.

If it is just a tear and the tendon/ligament is otherwise intact, you'll probably have to put the knee on ice for a while. No surgery.

If it is hanging in space in there, then, it is really up to the wisdom of your doctor. I had one doctor recommend to a friend who wasn't terribly active to try living with it for a while. He eventually had the sugery.

If you end up having to rest it, I too have a doctor story I can entertain you with. Mine was an emergency doctor, married, and ostensibly interested in my ideas on art.

I'm a firm believer that if you evil lefties would all be forced to start your service games from the AD court, there'd be a lot less cheap points and easy games for you (especially on the big occasions, when your mental frailty comes into play- after all, Billie Jean King can only be at one place at one time)! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Thanks for the blast hug!

P.S.- While I am most comfortable sticking volleys, I actually stay back quite a bit, so you wouldn't have a weak, loopy forehand coming back at your aggressive Chrissie baseline attack!

Good luck Alfa! I hope it's all fine!

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Well, it was fun while it lasted. I made it 3/4 of the way through a Tony Bennett CD and then right in the middle of "Put on a Happy Face", the guy cut the music off! I was actually getting into the juxtaposition of the MRI jackhammer noise against "I Left My Heart In San Francisco"- memories of leather bars South of Market Street flooding my brain...

Won't get the results back until next week, but just wanted to say thanks for all the well-wishers!

Good choice as Tony is soothing. Here's hoping that you'll be back out on the court and matches soon.

Hey, Buddy- Sorry I'm late-in-the-game to offer you good wishes here. Work has been NUTS.

OY, the stories I could tell as of late of all the evil doctors and dentists (it was probably redundant for me to include the term "evil" here) who have been probing and prodding into orifices of mine that I didn't even know existed.

At least....they TOLD me they all were dentists and doctors.....

Let's face it, we all are turning into such biddies, that we'll have to change the format of BFTP soon, to a "bad health care" forum, where we can feel free to share heartwarming stories of our corns, backaches, tardy bowel movements and Depends.

And now, in a rare moment of full seriousness for me....I am givin' ya big hugs and well wishes here, sweetie. Keep posting and letting us all know how you're doing.

Edit: No mo' goin' all gangsta Pixie Lamm on you ass. Now Nelslus All About Kübler-Ross'in' Acceptance in The BFTP Crib. Word.

Hi Alfa! I hope the results are positive and that you can be back on the courts soon! I can't imagine how frustrating it would be not to be able to play tennis due to an injury - I did have severe swelling and restricted mobility in a knee and elbow once and I just decided to keep playing through it all (with guards on) and after a few months they eventually healed themselves. But I wouldn't recommend this to anyone else - I just couldn't give up playing.

So sending you some loving thoughts across the airways to help your healing so you can be back on the courts soon

Jeff,

Here's hoping you get positive results from the MRI. Knees can tricky. I've been very fortunate. My oldest daughter, however, suffered a knee injury that kept her off the soccer field for a full year. When she returned, she had lost speed and simply wasn't willing to pay the price to regain her former form. Also, she discovered there was life beyond soccer. She started coaching, eventually resumed playing and begins college next week with a goal of walking on to the soccer team. She's been in good form, and I have high hopes.

I know that means nothing to you, but it's the only good knee story I had to share! If you ever come to Atlanta, let's plan to hit the courts! I promise to drop shot you only every other point!
