Re: The unorthodox Francoise Durr picture thread

Thanks for the updates Rollo! Love them. Got some sad news from Frankie a few weeks ago ... her husband Boyd passed away.

It's been a while since I posted about Frankie and not sure I mentioned it or not but Frankie and her daughter Jessica came and stayed with us in Sydney for a week and we got to do lots of fun things together including a mixed doubles tennis match. Bit of a dream come true.

My partner Kevin fell in love with Frankie and her crazy sense of humour. How could you not!

Re: The unorthodox Francoise Durr picture thread

I just found this video on Youtube of me serving to Francoise Durr and having a rally with her when she stayed with me a few years back. At the end you can hear her say "That's my shot - you steal it!" while we all laugh!

I how I adore Frankie!

Durr with her her Airedale named Topspin in 1974.

Her dog used to come on court carrying her racquets. The tour had personality then!

Frankie and the blonde Gail Lovera beating Rosie Casals and Billie Jean King at Roland Garros in 1970.

A short clip at 2 minutes-and the first minute showing weird images of linesmen and the crowd. The tennis starts about the 1 minute mark.

The October 1971 issue of World Tennis reports that Frankie was engaged to Virginia Slims Sports Director Bill Cutler. They planned to wed in the spring of 1972.

The marriage never happened.

Can you imagine the wondrous Francoise playing in today’s game!? And beating Maria Shriekapova with wits and guile! That would be AMAZING!

Re: The unorthodox Francoise Durr picture thread

Thank you for mentioning and posting pics of Francoise Durr. In 1976, as a ball boy, I managed to get her autograph at the Federation Cup which was played in Philadelphia. That year all teams came to Philadelphia to celebrate the bicentennial, and even though Frankie's team didn't have a chance of winning (meaning France) she was gracious, kind and very funny. I had the luxury of sitting in the row in front of her while she joked with Betty Stove about players and the strange 32 team format that was being held for Federation Cup that year. I still have her autograph to this day and I think she is one of the most underrated players of the 70's. Thanks so much for your posting!
