Seles will retire if she cant start 2005 season in Jan

Just find this on GM.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4047821.stm

Seles to decide future in January

Seles' last Grand Slam win came in 1996 in Melbourne

Monica Seles says she is likely to retire if she is unable to play at the start of the 2005 season.

"By January, I will make a decision. If I can't play then I probably will (retire)," the 30-year-old told the Sarasota Herald Tribune.

"I'm trying to get ready to play. I don't want to talk about retirement because I'm still trying so hard."

The nine-times Grand Slam champion has been out of action since June 2003 because of a foot injury.

She has had to abort several comebacks because of setbacks in her recovery, but she remains positive that the injury is healing. "I am trying to stay in a positive frame of mind," Seles said. "I have been feeling good. I have been hitting in the morning and then in the afternoon about three times a week. It is feeling better."

If Monica will return then she will get Wildcards She don't need to be listed in "Entry Lists"

I guess what Gala says is true. She has no ranking right now and entry lists are for those that will be in tournaments because of their ranking. Monica will/would have to ask for a wildcard to participate in the OZ Open. If she does there is no risk that she won't get one.
So we will have to wait for any news about her getting a wildcard. I'm sure that the OZ Open tournament director (P. McNamee?) is waiting anxiously for her fax on that...

So please Monica, get and stay healthy!!!

Monica announced her official retirement on February 14, 2008. What a sad day! I'm proud to be a Selestial and I admire Monica for her fighting spirit and her character.
The tennis world has lost one of the greatest players of all time! Have a wonderful post-tennis life!

Arantxa, you will always be in my heart. Thanks for all the great matches you gave us and for just being a wonderful person on and off court.
All the best for your future!

I have a question, its announced that she's playing 2 exo matches against Martina N. in February right?

So at least that is sure?

I would really prefer she to start in those exos than in Auckland and then the Aussie but hopefully there wil be more news soon

Monica will not be playing the Australian Open 2005. However, she will play two exhibition-matches against Martina Navrátilová in New Zealand: Auckland on 1st February, and Christchurch on 3rd February.

One can only continue to contemplate what Monica said about possibly announcing her retirement if she wasn't ready to start the 2005 season in January.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope. I know her retirement is coming soon but as a fan I'm not quite ready to let go.
