I am heartbroken for Jennifer

As John McEnroe said, "You cannot be serious!" How can this happen? Another third set tiebreak loss?! Jen played with so much guts and heart in the last set, and she did not choke this time. She has nothing to be ashamed of (but I do. My family thinks I'm nuts).

What are the odds that someone could lose three final set tiebreaks in the same stage of their home slam? I feel so bad for Jen and don't want her to get too discouraged. She fought so hard and so did Elena.

I so thought that she had the match... man I hope that it will pump her up instead of bringing her down.. god it was soooo close

what a fight by jen, I really thought she'd get smoked with the way she played in that first set, but god did she prove me wrong..

I really feel for her .. I so do..

i have never been so empty in my life i don't know what to think. this is so unfair. she could have won that, but i dont know what it is with russian players she used to beat! sometimes u have to believe in fate. there is no explanation for that other that fate.
i hope jen will be ok . i am so worried.

I love both girls and am so happy Jen fought back. The more aggressive player won though, there were times when I was urging Jen in my mind to consolidate her break. But Elena proved too strong on the return.

Jen played consistent, solid tennis with some aggression. Elena played the match like she wanted to win it.

I hope Jen can see from a poor hardcourt season, how she bounced into the SFs at the USO. If she can prepare a little better for the Oz, I think she can lift the title. And I really hope she does!!!

Good luck Jenny

I'm with that comment about Elena playing the better tennis. At times Jen was too defensive, but the win dplayed a major part in that. I have to give enormous credit to Elena for the match she played. Great fight and great heart.

As for Jen, guys, she's never meant to win this thing. 3 final set breakers. It says something. Fate will not let her hold the trophy above her head. And it's horrible she had to lose this way. Of course I worry for her and how this will affect her mindset, but she has so much to be proud of, but chances are, she won't be able to see it.

I'm proud of what she managed to do in this tournament. I'm proud to have been a fan. Her fight is still enormous and her heart is as big as ever. I still love the girl, but right now, my feelings go beyond a tennis match. I hope she doesn't take this too badly, but just takes some time off and enjoys herself. After all, she's still a champ. And she has great fans too

Well said Snuffkin. Jen is a former world No. 1, 3 GS, gold medallist and a sure lock for the hall of fame. In addition, she has a huge heart, a big personality and a game that she needs to use more. She only hit 15 winners in that match. Elena had 44.

She needs to try and find that game when she won the Oz in 2001. Such aggressive and clean ball striking.

C'mon Jen, take a break and come back with renewed vigour. You can still pull out something special. I don't think it'll happen at the USO IMO, but she can again at Oz.

I wish Jen the best of luck and I hope you guys have it in your heart to cheer Elena to victory!!

I hope Jen will continue to fight and have the opportunity to win tournies. I feel for her, for what could be their nightmares remembering the double fault on 6-5, 30-40.
I hope she'll have a Team able to make her pass over such things, keeping the good she made in this USO.
I want to see her happy on the courts for many, many years.
For the final, I hope Elena willl be able to play. I would not like if the only match of Elena without many DF will remain this one against Jen.

Anyway, I still want badly that Jen will be the female Agassi, keeping fighting for many more years.
GO JEN FOREVER!!!!!!!!

Jen played her heart out. I am very proud of her for what she has accomplished. Even though she didnt get the win again, she fought back and it was her best outing in a grand slam this year. It definately beats those embarrassing matches at the FO and Wimbledon!

Elena played great tennis. I dont know how she does it with that serve, but her forehand is unbelievable. Good job to Elena for fighting and giving the fans a great match.

I'm really not that upset by the loss. Of course I want her to win, but she played so well and I like Elena.

Well, good luck next year Jen. I will be there to cheer you on again!!

I am really gutted for Jen to be honest. Whatever anyone says, this tournament is the most important in the year for her and she had the best opportunity to win it this time that she's ever going to get.

To be this close again after last year just makes it so much worse. If she had been totally outplayed then fair enough but the last set was so tight and she could been more aggressive when she had her opportunities (just my opinion).

I just hope that she's going to be OK and that she carries on playing for a few more years cheered on as ever by her loyal fans . PS: All the people dissing her in GM can f**k off (as Jen would say). Jen would not be Jen if she didn't have a rant at the umpire once in a while and I'm sure most of her fans actually quite like that about her. Go Jen!

PPS: I don't think that she is destined never to win the US Open. Can't we hold out just a little bit of hope for next year?!

Nice post. I agree with you on the part about the people in GM.

Plus, we Jen fans should never ever give up hope in her winning the US Open....not until the day she officially retires....which will be a long time away!! Go Jen!!!

I'm really so sad for Jennifer. I saw the match yesterday evening (I live in Italy). Jennifer played well. She found the strength to fight after an aweful first set.
When she won the second one, I thought that she could win the match. I was too embitter at the end of the match. It isn't fair. Jenny deserved to win this tournament....
I hope that this defeat don't discourage Jennifer, because I'm sure that she will reach many important victories.

Yeah i feel so upset for Jen. She does not seem to be able to get past those 3rd set tiebreakers, Elena played well, but Jen had chances when she was 6-5 up etc. I just hope it will not affect her too much.

It's heartbreaking, but I don't think we will see the total effect until Oz rolls around. That is when we will know if it's bothering her or not. I wouldn't mind her taking the rest of the year off to think about whether she is gonna make a huge run next year or move along status quo.

having said that however i have not and will never give up on jenny
she always fights and sticks in there an so should we
