Novotna/Wade vs. Mandlikova/White

Oh boy wouldn't I like to just take off work and drive up to Flushing Meadow just to be on Court 11 this afternoon when this senior women's doubles match takes place!!! Talk about cool stares, hot tempered "wretch!" words flying about the court, and most of all- good volleying!!!

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.

Yes, it would be nice to see this match. Take my mind off that horrible Serena/Jen match and Andy losing Is Gigi playing?

Just checked and Gigi is playing with Wendy T.

I saw Novotna / Wade beat JoAnne Russell / Anne Smith earlier this week and it was the highlight of my day!

Novotna looked incredible - in great shape, and stunningly attractive. There were some French junior players behind me who were quite taken with her!

I was even more astonished by Virginia Wade. She must be 59 now, but there she was, chasing down lobs, attacking the net and still with that "catapult" style service motion she devleoped late in her career.

I also saw Gigi Fernandez and Wendy Turnbull (eek!) beat Ilana Kloss and Ros Fairbank. Gigi treated it the match as if it were a grand-slam final, arguing calls and generally creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for the other players and the spectators.

What was terrific about these matches was that there are never many people watching them, so you can get really close to the action.

usopen.org does have them, you have to check the daily schedules and there are the over 35s too.

I would have too! From the scores, it was a helluva match!
