WTA computer system bonus points

This thread will try to gather the bonus points WTA gave out for beating highly ranked players.

Bonus points were part of the WTA computer rankings from its inception, 1975, until 2005, when these bonus (or quality) points were abolished.
Unfortunately, one cannot find those bonus points on the players' profiles on the official WTA site, just the tournament points.

Update: thanks to the contributions of fellow posters, we could reconstruct the bonus points between 1984 and 2005.

1984: the year when WTA introduced a new ranking system, assigning values to tournaments based on prize money ahead of time, as opposed to deciding this after based on who entered.

The bonus points were distributed this way for beating various opponents.

No201-300: 0.5
No301-500: 0.3

Note: I'm not sure why the bonus is 0 (zero) for No 151-200 and yet is higher for No 201-300! Perhaps it is a mistake in the guide and should read 1.0?

This is from the 1990 WTA Media Guide, page 31.

Re: WTA computer system bonus points

In a week or so I will get another media guide from 1994 or 1995. When that comes in I will share the bonus points.

Good luck with this project

Thanks for the additions.
Did the bonus points remain identical in 2004-5 as well?

Hi angliru,

Are you sure these points apply for 1994?
They work very well for 1993, but they seem to be incorrect for 1994.
I tried to reproduce the bonus points of Steffi Graf, and I miss around 167 points using the above table.

Maybe already in 1994 more bonus points were allocated in Grand Slam events.

Re: WTA computer system bonus points

@elegos7 :
Unfortunately I don't have the original point card - only a copy and paste text. But I'm pretty sure it's 1994.

I checked Hingis' numbers (easy, as she didn't play much in 1994), and I get 217 points just like the year end file. But Hingis didn't play Grand slams so maybe there were different bonus points for those like you suggest (or a factor of some sort?). I don't know. Hopefully a media guide will emerge some day.

Hi Rollo,

Thanks in advance.

While you are at it, could you also check from the 1995 Media Guide the year-end WTA Tour standings? These were used for qualification for the Virginia Slims Championships and allocating bonuses to players after the Virginia Slims Championships.
I calculated them using the point system given in the 1995 World of Tennis yearbook and got the following results. Are they correct?
Sanchez-Vicario, Arantxa 5468
Graf, Steffi 4924
Martinez, Conchita 3721
Pierce, Mary 3020
Sabatini, Gabriela 2976
Davenport, Lindsay 2610
Novotna, Jana 2554
Navratilova, Martina 2413

Also, I wonder whether this WTA Tour point system, different from the WTA computer point system, was still in plan for 1995.
The World of Tennis yearbooks show no evidence for it for 1995 or 1996.
