THAT is why I love Bud. Really fabulous article...thanks, JennyS. I really have the feeling Jen will win it this time. I had it at the French in 2001 too. I hope I'm right You should post it in GM.

Very intersting and very well written.
Thank you JennyS.
Let me put just a little quote:
"Yes, Serena suffered a couple of incorrect calls against Capriati, but they didn't cost her the match. Her 57 errors (to Capriati's 29), as well as Capriati herself, were a much greater cause of suffering."
Tratee, I agree, we should post it in GM.

Wonderful, timeless, little Jen!!!!!!

Interesting to note one thing here - Bud was VERY vociferous in his feelings about Jen after FedCupGate. So much so, in fact, that Camp Capriati refused to consider any interviews with the broadcasting network his words were expressed on during the French Open. Anyway, I like how he has the foresight to accept that this is a different situation and one which Jen holds no culpability for. While some continue to be narrow-minded, Bud's had the good grace to play fair. And I applaud him for that. Nice article and as verbose as ever!

And is it just me or do you guys find yourself smiling when you read articles about Jen when she was playing the first time around? Just the thought of little Jen always gets me smiling.

Anyway, I know there's still a semi to go and I won't underestimate Dementieva, nor am I certain Jen won't have another let-down (I want to be wrong), but I still see Lindsay looming large and still think she's the fave. It would be perfect, almost fateful though. The New Yorker winning on the date ingrained on all New Yorkers' minds. Either way, she's still made us happy to be fans.

And sadly I don't really think GM would care for it. There's no accusations or nastiness in it.

I've never been to Cuba

I'm glad you guys liked the article. I'm not going to be going in GM for a while, so I don't know if anyone's posted it yet.

I think Jen's not going to have the same letdown as she did in Paris because she won't be the heavy favorite. At Roland Garros, so many people said it was Jen's tournament to win, but with Lindsay on the hot streak that she is, she's not the #1 favorite.

I hope Jen puts a great effort into tomorrow's match and would love to see her make her first US Open final (and then win it!)

What a great article. Bud Collins is such a nice guy. I got his autograph and got to talk to him while i was there. He signed autographs for everyone and would take pictures with you and everything. Plus he patted me on the shoulder. lol This article definately put a smile on my face. Go Jen and good luck!!!
