Thanks for the welcome messages. I have only just had power restored, unlike my neighbor who has the additional handicap of a tree on his car and in his house. Believe me, Florida in August is NOT a month to experience without air-conditioning.
Rollo: being British, my first memories are of Virginia Wade's annual struggles at Wimbledon and, of course, her 1977 win. I was also driven crazy by the wildly inconsistent Sue Barker.
I was a big fan of both Graf and Seles (or Seles and Graf - don't want to get anyone started on that) and, get this, have no strong opinions of the merits of one above the other!
She has only just retired, but I loved watching Hingis play, and miss her clever game. The current WTA tour misses her even more.
What has really fascinated me about this board are the discussions about players I knew next to nothing about: Osbourne, Brough, Bueno, Hard etc.
I have been encouraged to brush up on my tennis history, and have recently read "Court on Court", "A long way Baby" and the very odd "Courting Danger". The latter made me laugh out in incredulous laughter when I read the passage about Alice being deflowered on the beach by the soon-to-be-spy.
I look forward to posting as soon as I clean my fridge. I forgot to empty it and it is covered with what appears to be penicillin.
