Tracy Austin post French 1983?

Ever since preacher fan posted an SI article from the 1977 Slims Champs that mentioned 14 year old Tracy Austin as the next successor to Evert (how the hell did SI know this? They gave Austin a COVER the year before at 13!) I have been in an SI loop. The 1981 end of year article about the back to back matches they played in Jersey (it's Joisey you idiot!) was fascinating.

But I began wondering if Tracy ever set foot on court again after the French in 1983? Did she play at all in 1984? Was the next time she played a pro singles match during her better left forgotten early 90's comeback? Wikipedia is no help. Can someone post a link to where the info might be found. I am lame - I know.

go to the ITF website

they should have her 1980's playing activity.

edit: I looked. She made the SF at Eastbourne right after the French Open in 1983. She got injured later in the year and barely played until trying a comeback in 1988-1989. Then she stopped again until a 1993 comeback.

Thanks serv. So she did play a few events at the beginning of 1984 and then that was basically it.

Yeah, she was basically done at 21 yrs. old.

Without the injuries, she probably would have at least been top 5 thru the mid-8o's.

I think her game was not powerful, but others, like Evert, adapted to the technological advances in the rackets, I think she would have, as well.

Yeah, pretty sure Austin had to default her semi against Turnbull at Eastbourne '83 and then withdrew last minute from Wimbledon. I also recall her losing to Pam Casale early in '84 and I think that was that. She started playing doubles again in '88-'89, but didn't play singles until '93, I think.
