Clock Problems?

I'm finding that the clock is an hour off

I know you're going to tell me that it's my setting, but I just checked and I still have it set to GMT - 5:00 for the Eastern Time in the US. It's 10:39 on my clock right now and the time will definitely come up as my posting at 11:40.

Anyone having a similar problem?

OK, now I'm REALLY confused - apparently, the USA is not observing DST at the moment, so even though Spain and Belgium are at 6:20 PM right now, the USA is still only at 11:20 - I dont really know why that is.

There's no solution to that but to just wait until we hit DST I guess - lol

I HAVE the answer - the USA doesn't start on the daylight savings time until next week, April 6

I guess we'll just all be off an hour for the time being

Mikey:

You are right, the clock is 1 hour ahead of what it should be.

I have a feeling that the webmasters are a little lazy. They just wanted to adjust DST this week instead of next week, just so they can get it over with. They probably are going on vacation next week.

Oh well, come next week, the clock will be correct again, I hope.

I don't think it's something the webmasters do - doesn't the software take care of that automatically?

If you go into your user CP, Options, you can choose to have the DST settings "always off", "always on" or "automatically detect..." (I have that option checked) - could that have something to do with it?

For us here (in Belgium) the clock is correct. And we changed to DST last night (2 o'clock became 3 o'clock), like most of Europe, I think...

I have it on "automatically detect", but it's not supposed to change until April 6 (next Sunday).

I guess it's a bug in the software (if it is indeed done by the software and not by the webmasters).

I will just set it manually from now on.

aaron - a lot of countries which are not close to the equator change their clock twice a year. Once in the spring, when 2 am becomes 3 am, and once in the fall, when 3 am becomes 2 am again...

Most of Europe changed on march 30th this year (it's always done in the weekend, to make it easier on everybody). In the US they change next weekend, I think.

Why? Well, policymakers thought it would save energy, since people would only have to put the lights on an hour later in summer, while in winter it's more important to have daylight an hour earlier. It's an attempt to concentrate most waking hours in daylight...

The whole thing is disputed... since it has been proved that it does not save energy. Not much, anyway. Plus, it's a nuisance to have to change all your clocks twice a year, especially if you have many... and everything has a clock nowadays, tv, video, radio, microwave, car etc... AND it confuses our biological clocks...

OTOH: it IS nice to be able to sit outside at sunset after work, in the summer (otherwise the sun would have set an hour earlier...)
