Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

So I made this suggestion on the "banned from forum" thread, but I thought I might as well make it an official suggestion.

Well, the thing is sometimes posters are suspended/banned (for trivial reasons, for offences which are not public information), and then they just disappear without a trace. When I come to this board there are certain posters whose posts and interactions I enjoy more than others, and sometimes I'm curious when these posters disappear and I wonder if they are simply taking a break, if they are permabanned or suspended, if they will return.

I think it'll be good if there's a thread with a list banned and suspended posters are collated (together with their offense) so that the rest of us posters can use the list as a reference as a sort of "what happened to who".

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

It seems ok to wonder about a certain poster but then it's another to wonder why specifically a certain poster isn't here.
I don't see it being a problem with finding out about a certain poster if their posting habits have been irregular in about 60 days but if they're permabanned or suspended I don't see a reason why everyone should know why that occured.

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

The reason why they are banned is really optional. It's not a big deal either way, and I don't expect a full account if it's done.
Just a short note like "suspended for insensitive remarks".

The main point is to have a list of these posters, yeah.

How would that be fair to the poster?
Sure your curious, but what if they don't want their ban to be publicized.

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

I know that most of the posters would like to have this thread but you need to trust that the admins are doing the right thing when it comes to this. Just so you know the easy way to tell if a poster has been suspended or banned is that you are not able to rep them anymore. If there rep icon is gone it means they have been suspended or banned. At least this this way you will know from now on if you friends are just not showing up anymore or if they have been removed from the site.

There are many reasons as to why this type of thread just isn't possible and I will give you a couple. First off there are over 39 pages of banned posters currently with each page having about 100 posters on it. Its just not possible to give a detailed explanation as to why they were banned. You may think its not necessary but it would be because if we gave a 1 line answer as to why we banned someone, all their friends would be up in arms that we suspended or banned someone for "rude comments".

Secondly it opens the door to other posters using the thread against the staff, which to be honest none of us need as we get enough hate as it is. We will start seeing complaints of why isn't so and so banned for saying this when you banned this person for saying the same thing. I know that most of you don't believe this, but we don't ban people for no reason, we only ban after multiple warnings, infractions and suspensions along with a lengthy discussion between the admins about the right coarse of action.

You need to trust that if a poster has been suspended its because they broke the rules and its meant to be between the staff and the poster. I don't personally thinks its fair to let the whole board know that you did something wrong and what that thing was specifically.

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

If someone decided that they didn't want to log onto this site for a few months and didn't tell anybody, if you didn't have their contact details, it would mean you'd be left to wonder where they've gone.

How is that any different to someone being banned ?

If I want to keep in touch with someone, I make the effort to get some other means of contacting them other than being on this board.

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

Everyone agrees IMO except the mods... I don't care about why, but it would be nice to see who's banned and until when if you ask me... It could even just say in their user profile "banned until _".

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

^^ Even technically I don't believe it's possible. And I don't think any of us is willing to do the work or updating public profile for every suspended/banned poster.

And I'm just gonna back up what Canuck said, a ban/suspension is between the staff and the poster, unless the poster decides to talk about it. It will remain as such for the time being.

Re: Suggestion Re: Banned and Suspended Posters

Just make a list with banned members and close the thread, so nobody can talk about it?

Most forums show the banned members in a sort of index, the mods and admins are still alive, as for as I know.
