My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Threads?

My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistently Applied to All Similar Threads?

My thread with Match Reports and Impressions from the Cincinnati Tournament was moved from GenMes to the Cincinnati Tournament Forum.

Putting aside the notion that this reduces my desire to take the time to write in the thread, because so many fewer people will see it (thus making it more of a waste of time than a service to the forum in general)....

I would just like to have your Rationale for why it was moved (simple statement or reference to specific forum rule, that can be referred to in the future).

And then your statement that all other such threads (Match Report Threads, Photo Threads) from specific tournaments will also be moved now and in the future. For sure we have had many such threads that lived in GM in recent months. I suppose now that we are moving these threads, including mine, that all others will be moved as well, and you would ask our help in reporting any that are erroneously started in GM.

Thank you.

Re: My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Thread

Actually I would like to ask you to reconsider. This thread received over 2400 Views while it was in GM. And I received many replies in the thread.

Now it is dead. I've posted three messages to it from Tuesday at the tournament, and there have been no replies or requests in it at all.

I don't think I'll go on updating it there, because each message can take up to 30 minutes to write. Why do that for nobody to read?

I think with a thread that covers many players and is of current interest and has a high volume of Hits and Replies, to kill it by moving it defeats the purpose of this forum. And other threads have stayed - other people's match reports threads and photos threads from other tournaments.

Well, I will see what you do. Thanks for thinking about it.

Perhaps you could read through it and get an idea of the topics I'm covering, and the replies/requests in there.

We have taken the stance that tournament reports should be posted in the tournament forums. This is why your thread was moved. Your thread isn't dead by the way, you quoted that you had 2400 views since you opened the thread on Aug 8th, you now have 3553 and people are still posting in it asking you questions. Also most of the people asking questions in your thread are doing it during the morning/early afternoon your time. You have to take into account that its early morning in Europe right now and most people on the east coast are sleeping.

Why? I don't understand. You can move every result thread as well then if you wanna be consistent.
I think the best solution would be to let reports from tournaments be in GM during the week tournament is played and move it the next week.

I agree, and please consider the huge amount of time people put into match reports and photos. These types of threads are I think the most investment any member makes at all, and it is usually once per year. I have no other threads ever in GM but this is significant.

I think that was due to the batch update of hit counts - it doesn't update in real time. Now watch and see how quickly (or slowly) that 3553 moves. Point of the board is to generate hits, is it not?

Re: My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Thread

Its not getting moved back.

Its clear its a tournament forum thread.

Using the "more hits" argument is flawed. People could (and most certainly would) post all manner of things in GM, whether they are relevant for a tournament forum, a player forum, a games forum, etc etc etc. I do believe the recent topic in this bugs forum is to have clearer and tighter GM modding.

Your argument would advocate people advertising their games, live score threads, player specific threads, chat threads, just so their thread got more hits. People invest a lot of time into running games and certainly spend a lot of energy chatting in chat threads. Doesn't mean they should be in GM.

et voila. As soon as the rules are upheld, the rules we were asked to be more stringent on, people whine because their threads are different/special/unique. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Please accept the decision which has been made.

*cue posters going through every post in every thread with a fine toothcomb to find things that need moving/editing "because the mods are rubbish/biased/lazy/undermodding/overmodding/power hungry/unfair/have vendettas/bullies", together with some choice sarcastic comments in their reports*

This thread has no point as the moderators will never ever say that they were wrong. Sonic's replies simply confirm that.

Re: My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Thread

I don't know adner, I find myself frequently admitting that I'm wrong of late. Maybe I'm just getting old and make more mistakes than the others.

Anyway, drake3781, to answer your question: yes this will be consistently applied to all similar tournament report threads. If you come across any threads similar to yours in the future in GM, feel free to bring them to a moderator's attention.

GM forum rules have recently been re-written to make them clearer so please read them. Technically, your first port of call here should have been to PM a GM forum moderator as is outlined in the rules document.

I accept that the bit about tournament report threads wasn't in there so I apologise for the confusion but I have added it in now for clarification.

It was a long document that took me some time to write (and even longer to add my colleagues' corrections) so it was inevitable that it would need some correcting as matters like this came up.

I expect there to be a few more glitches but the document is a work in progress and I hope it will become increasingly comprehensive and thus reduce confusion for posters and the inconsistency from moderators that clearly seem to infuriate posters like Lunaris above.

We welcome (constructive) feedback regarding unclear points but the rules have been re-examined and re-confirmed between all moderators recently so there are no plans to change them again any time soon.

Maybe it's because you pointed out their spelling mistake.

Re: My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Thread

It has dropped to #13 on the page. Below 9 game threads, the "Stream?" thread, two OOP threads, and one spam thread.

No posts written to it since 10:33 AM - that is 12 hours ago.

This is a thread that got 3550 hits in one day when it was in GM.

And this policy seems right to you?

This type of information sharing was precisely the reason I joined this forum in the first place.

I won't be wasting my time on it any more. One last post for closure.

Lightbulb Re: My Thread Was Moved - Will the Policy be Consistely Applied to All Similar Thread

Hello . I can sort of understand ( although i agree with the thread starter ) a thread being moved like this when a tourney is still going on. However, someone posted an Istanbul picture thread in GM that got moved to the Istanbul tourney thread. That tourney thread is completely dead ( unlike the current Cinci tourney thread ) and will most likely recieve very fiew views. This poster has over 2,000 pics that he'll be adding and sharing with the forum . I think its unfair for all of us ( including the poster who took the pics ) that the thread was moved as most people on this forum will miss out on the pics. I think this "policy" should be taken on a case by case basis. Maybe move the picture thread to the Istanbul tourney thread after a week or so after all of the pics have been posted... Just my opinion ...
