Official GM rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

You guys are not happy with the way GM is going? Neither are we. So please make suggestions about what should be in it, and what you think should be moved and where to. It will be a great help for us to set rules that are clearer for everyone.

Just a couple of reminders before you people do:

- All suggestions will be considered and discussed
- Suggestions are not commands, some of them might not be viable nor technically possible

Please use this thread only for suggestions, no chat nor complains (posts will be deleted anyway). It'll be easier for us to read through them.

-------------------------------------

So far we have
  • tighter moderating in GM (by several posters),
  • a junk subform for the fight threads,
  • newbies only being able to make a thread in GM after 500 posts,
  • more mods to help with the pressure, ensure theres more chance of mods being online,
  • challenger results kept in challenger threads
  • less restriction on what can be said about players
  • more aggressive banning policies
  • Leave it as it is
  • Delete more topics
  • Ban people for not using the search function
  • Ban people for recurrent name calling
  • A subforum in GM for result threads
  • all "career achievements" threads to be moved to BFPT
  • Threads about players can go to their forums, threads about results can go to that tournaments forum, threads about rankings or stats can go to statistics forum etc.

- all "career achievements" threads to be moved to BFPT
- Threads about players can go to their forums, threads about results can go to that tournaments forum, threads about rankings or stats can go to statistics forum etc.
- The idea of a subforum for results threads should be re-introduced.

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

I suggest one or two more mods so they can be there more often to move threads.

Also I think only Senior Members should get to start threads anywhere, since it's not that hard to reach, but shows they are serious posters. Some people have said they started threads right away, but if those threads weren't there until they came, they can wait until the person is a senior member.

I don't like any of the other suggestions there.

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

I can't really suggest GM rules, but I wish they were more clear, easy to understand and enforce. I see you're working on setting the new rules...so good luck with that.

But...If you are seriously considering "junk subforum" (with more appropriate name)...
I suggest that "bad" GM threads are moved there instead of spamming players' forums.

That's not an easy task but we are trying to get people's opinions to help us do it properly.

To classify a thread as "bad" is very suggestive.

The right 2B snarky about players so long as its not hate speech, like saying:

I'm glad the lousy bitch lost because (whatever).

(@ least in the kind of fight threads subforum mentioned above)

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

Is there a place to discuss these suggestions? Sorry if this has been covered already.

I think there should be stricter policies in banning troublesome posters. If they have proven to be inclined to create controversy on several occassions, a strict ban should be initiated. If allowed back and the same problem reoccurs, a perma ban should be given out without question. The policy set in stone right now is not bad but it seems that there are too many posters returning and creating more controversy.

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

I don't want to post arguments about each proposed rule, suffice it to say that I don't agree with most of the rules and would like to see very little change. So count this a "no" vote on all the changes. (Yes, I might like one or two of them but will just simplify it with a no-change stance.)

Things are pretty good the way they are, and if Mods can just keep an eye on extraneous thread, and duplicate thread, and handle them, hat would be the only thing I want to see done better/differently.

  • Moved threads could be systematically assorted with a 24h ban for the thread starter.
  • Name-calling, offensive personal attacks and aggressive bad language should be systematically sanctioned by a temporary ban (definitive for multiple offenders).

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

If a thread gone bad then instead of locking it delete it. It's pointless to have locked threads consuming space in GM until they fall on page 4+ where nobody looks, especially when there is more than one locked thread at the same time.

Seeing that some posters complain about threads being moved to a player subforum then instead of moving them delete them too.

Posters should learn to use search button, therefore if they start a thread concerning a frequently discussed topic (aka slamless Safina being number one is horrid!!!111) they should be given a warning and told to use search button next time. If they ignore this and start another thread on a frequent topic they should be either warned again or suspended.

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

Umm...I have a quaestion.
What would be in the GM if you get rid of all that stuff?

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Re: Official rules suggestion thread (no chat please)

Thank you all for your suggestions, we are currently looking at all of them before we finalise GM rules.
