Some people need to be reminded that this is a women's tennis forum

... and not a gay porn forum.

http://www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php...18&postcount=8

Intrusive and unnecessary.

While we are at it, I am against large signature pics in general.

http://www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php...11&postcount=4

It would be different if I could switch them off without switching off signatures in general, but that's not possible.
So yeah, these people paid you money (for whatever reason). That should not give them the right to clutter the forum with their stuff.

I agree and I also dislike the size of that avatar, 1/2 a MB is unnecessary and a killer on dialup (which I thankfully do not have).

I've been forced to switch off avatars now, while I've had sigs switched off for months.

I think it's sad that people actually paid money so they could have a larger picture and a picture in their forum signatures.

I paid money because like most of us, we use this site every day and all day. Paying 25$ for a lifetime is so minimal to help support the site. A banner and an avatar are not always the reason why a membership is purchased.

But, yes. There should be a limit to the size of signatures as well as pictures not being as graphic as some pictures can be. As for that "gay porn" picture, it is not pornographic. No need to be so sensitive. I am sure there are more pornographic pictures out there.

I agree with you but unfortunately 90% of the time that is the only reason which pushes people to purchase it, much more than to support a site that we spend a lot of time on.

This question has been brought up before, I'll bring it up again with other mods.

Re: Some people need to be reminded that this is a women's tennis forum

Yasmine: I didn't notice that the person's avatar is 0.5 MB but I have to agree with E_A that this is just not right.
I made a post about dial-up connections before but by now these are totally useless in regard to WTAWorld and I've come to terms with it.
Still, I mean there must be a reason for the fact that WTAWorld is the website that is down the most often of all sites I regularly visit. And if it's not down it's usually slow as hell. I am no expert but it must have to do something with all the sites being so large due to pics and sigs etc.
That's why we had limits on avatar sizes, posts per page etc. in the first place, no? And now with the premium members all this goes out of the window.

Regarding the "gay porn" issue: No, the pic is not graphic. But a) it's too big and b) the source is obviously porn material.
This is just a courtesy issue. There is no reason for this person to put on pics like that, other than he can. It serves no purpose at all other than to be in-your-face with his sexual orientation. Again, this is a tennis messageboard. And still there are enough places on here where he can express himself all the time. But please not within every single post!
There should be no need to put regulations on this, but unfortunately some people have a total lack of common sense and some manners which is sad.

The issue with the premium members is very very problematic. You are offering them benefits that
a) the site obviously isn't able to handle and
b) makes visiting this site less enjoyable for others, even for themselves.

Re: Some people need to be reminded that this is a women's tennis forum

I don't think there is any problem with the size of avatars or signatures. If you have that much of a problem with it, then by all means switch it off. People have paid for the right to have them that large, and if they want to take advantage of that right, so be it.

The site is fine for me What slows it down is when thousands of users (mostly guests) are browsing. I don't think many people would say any of this takes away from the "enjoyment" of WTAW.

Re: Some people need to be reminded that this is a women's tennis forum

Look GoDominique I cannot give you an answer, but will bring your posts and this thread to the attention of the mod/admin crew and the technical staff.

On the signature issue, in the mean time... When you notice posters with huge siggies, please report their posts and they will be nicely asked to reduce it by PM (or the staff will edit it themselves). It has been done several times in the past. But you can't expect the staff to look and go through every single profile. So do that, and we'll do our best, before any technical issues are adressed.

As for the slow board, it has been said numerous times that a lot of work is being put into improving your user experience. But obviously some of you will just never take that as an answer.

Maybe because we've been waiting for this board to become more stable for years now, to no avail?

Look, if the site can handle all this stuff, why not?
But you should not offer these things when the site crashes all the time. That way you always have to catch up with site improvements. It should be the other way round.

BTW, I have reported Denise's sig a long time ago and nothing happened. Probably because you don't want to lose a paying customer.

Re: Some people need to be reminded that this is a women's tennis forum

No need to roll eyes, Ms. Mod.

Denise's sig covers my whole screen, which as far as I know is too big.
What's wrong with what I said? She paid, so you aren't gonna tell her to make it smaller.

Again, the whole issue is style over substance. The old Sanex Board and also the early WTAWorld was a text-only board. Now it's all flashy and stuff but nothing of significance is ever posted. Why? Maybe because people feel that their good posts get buried in all the pics and smilies anyway.

Is there any advantage in having a thread that's 1/3 message and 2/3 sigs, except to satisfy those who need huge sigs to compensate their shortcomings in other um parts?

Let's say you put all the money you get from premium members into making the site faster. Well ... all that effort for something that does nothing towards improving the initial purpose of this site, which was discussing about tennis? Doesn't make sense to me.

Of course, if you do this mainly for profit then of course you, as any other company, don't care that much about that and there's nothing I can do.

What profit do I get myself? I'ld be happy to know... really.

Anyway the question of signature size is adressed in the mod forum as we speak. I'll get back to you when and if anything is decided or set up.
