How can someone without a rep system bad rep me?

Someone who has a gray dot (meaning they don't use reps) just bad repped me

How is that even possible? I can't even bad rep them back

How should you be? You should be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continuously pounds.
It stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say,
"How unlucky that this should happen to me."
But not at all.
Perhaps say instead how lucky I am that I am not broken by what has happened,
and I am not afraid of what is about to happen.

Remember that if you can't rep someone, it means they've been banned or suspended.

I'm talking about when they have their rep system turned off. Instead of the green/red dots at the left they have just 1 gray/black dot.

And they weren't banned, they have thousands of post and are still posting.

Well even when someone has a black dot in the rep bar, you can still rep them as long as the repping icon is there try it I guarantee you it works

What's the point of turning off your rep then?

I'm talking about when you have a person like this:

http://www.wtaworld.com/member.php?u=1384
(this isn't the person, BTW, it's just someone else who had their rep turned off)

Who has no rep bar... it says they have disabled the rep system. Why can they still rep/get repped if it's turned off?

Yes, you can still rep them, they don't see the reps in their User CP though, unless they turn the repping back on.

It is an interesting situation, but it's how the system works I'm afraid.

No.

you can still rep them but I think they won't be able to see them.

Don't ask why, I have no idea, and didn't make the rules...

So they can bad rep me, and give me negative rep, but they can't see mine in return?

Or do they like turn it on, bad rep, then turn it off again??

Thanks

Yes, that's how it works. They don't have to turn it on to rep.

If you look at the options, you see this:
Quote:
Show My Reputation Level
Your current reputation level is displayed to other users whenever you post a message. If you would like to hide your reputation, disable this option.
So basically you just turn off the rep bar and with it the appearing of reps in your user cp.

No.

Re: How can someone without a rep system bad rep me?

Actually I think they CAN see the reps they get. I used to have my reps "off" when the system was introduced - and I could see the comments people left. I just had no green or red dots showing under my name in my posts.

So rep away (responsibly, of course )

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.
