Proposal about new members

I know the upgrades are occuring soon and I'm not sure what the new situation will be with new members but I think it would be beneficial to limit new members to only posting posts, and not threads, until they reached senior membership. It is probably something that has been put forward before, but I just thought Id see what others thought about this idea.

It would also give new members a time to understand the board, so we don't get new posters making a bunch of silly threads like alot do. Sometimes you can't tell if they are trolls or just annoying

Also perhaps there could be a thread for new members to introduce themselves. It could be a sticky on general messages or non-tennis and they could post anything they wanted about them, their name, age, location, fav players etc.

Thanks for all the hardwork on the site though mods, and the new upgrades should be good

That's a brilliant idea!

I think someone proposed this before, and it was rejected. I think it's an okay idea though, maybe a little unfair on the new posters that do have something worthwhile to contribute though.

A senior member has only 10 messages

While that could be changed, it would be EZ for the trolls to do 100, 500, whatever. (Like a lot of "go X" posts in livescore threads, or quoting other posts with etc. etc.) So unless the (volunteer, of course) "Adminimods" individually approved newbies on this, an unreasonable burden, continually banning trolls would wind up happening anyway.

It would definately cause alot of useless posts.
You will have someone do 100 posts in a day just to be able to start a thread.

And gauranteed they would be " yes" "i agree" etc posts therefore creating alot more spam. Its easier to remove a thread than it is 100 crappy posts.

But Erika's idea will also save us from threads like "Which player is gay". I think such threads are more disturbing than posts like "I agree" or "you're right".

I remember when I first posted on here as a junior member, I was hoping that nobody would be mean to me.

This place has enough cliques and is unfriendly enough to new posters - particularly with the rep system being used the way it is - without telling them they can't post what they want as well IMHO.

Look at me adding my two cents seriously for a change .

Well, semi-seriously .

Yeah, this needs to be changed, it's weird seeing "Senior Member" for someone who just joined that day or that week. I guess it really doesn't mean anything, practically speaking, but it's still wrong.

OK, for new members, since limit starting threads seems to be controversial, how about this: a limit on the number of posts/threads that can be made each 24-hour period, until a certain number of days has passed AND until a certain number of posts have been made.

For ex, I join Nov 1.
I am limited to ten posts per day until Dec 1, but if I haven't made 100 posts by Dec 1, then the limit is in place until I have the 100 posts.

Regardless of any conclusions lets at least wait for a few weeks after the upgrade. remember there will be quite a few more mods in a few days.
