About twitter embedding

Hi,
Some users (you know who they are) love to do a post including many twits, videos and all, for example copy+paste many videos in a row with the highlights. This make the page loading very slow and very difficult to handle from a mobile phone, sometimes making it crash and reload.

Imho, 80% of these posts are spamming (and very annoying for some people) but even if not I think something could be done while keeping all these posts with so many twitter embedding.
Maybe make obligatory to hide the content of the post with a spoiler or any other similar tag, allowing about one or 2 twit in the same post to be visible, hiding the rest for those who may care. This has been implemented in other forums which were experimenting the same issue and helped inmensely to increase the functionality.

People also should have a better use of twitter, gif and video embedding. But since they probably won’t, we may discuss about handling this to keep this site friendly to mobile phones.

Re: About twitter embedding

BUMP.
Can Mods please not ignore it this time around?

Please Make obligatory to use Spoiler tags to chains of 10-20 tweets or so or at least put a limit in the number of tweets per post. Other forums made that mandatory. You can post like 3-4 tweets and then something like this:

Tweet 1
Tweet 2
Tweet 3
Continue... More... Etc

Tweet 4
Tweet 5
Tweet 6
Tweet 7

I raised this in the Andreescu-Bouchard thread. Bonk makes almost impossible to load the page with this post.

People let’s all help to make this place friendly to navigate
Thanks in advance.

Posters who post endless amounts of embedded tweets and say nothing in every single results thread should be banned. Are they even real people?

Re: About twitter embedding

Does everything need a conference and a new rule?

Just advise posters to put a maximum of 5 or so tweets within one individual post (the rest in separate consecutive posts) to avoid pageload/bandwidth issues. Ideally the same should apply for large photographs too. Because systems try to load everything in one post all at once: if there are 20 tweets or pictures in one post then all 20 are activated.

And the poster's name is Bonk, let's not beat around the bush

we asked the webmasters if there is a possibility to add some sort of technical limit for embed media (just like we have for smilies) but we did not get any feedback yet but thanks for reminding us, we will chase them up on it now.
Anyway, we already agreed before to make an announcement also that people should use spoiler tags themselves, if they post more than 3-4 tweets/videos (depends on where, in some games it is obviously not needed to use spoiler tags but for GM it definitely makes sense).
We will also talk with the people directly, who post most of these stuff and in general people should just report it to make it easier for us to catch it and then we can start to hide that stuff with the spoiler tag more oftent to make things clearer again.

And sorry for not providing an ealier update here, I have been waiting for a feedback myself and then forgot about it after a while.
So an announcement and a possible limit for media will follow and for now, please just report it and I will remind those specific users (I have two names in my head already myself ) as well!

Re: About twitter embedding

You don't have to be genius to figure out it won't help. If an ignorant wants to post 15 Twitter embeds, then he/she will post 15 Twitters embeds, regardless of forum limitations. By the way, I don't see the difference between 1 post with 15 Twitter embeds and 5 posts with 3 Twitter embeds each in terms of user experience.

You can create 5 posts with 3 Twitter embeds each to avoid the use of spoiler tag. Again, I don't see the solution. On top of that, you can't expect people to do something only because they are expected to do it. Every user has a file size limit for avatar on this forum except for Administrators. You SHOULD optimize your avatars like any other user, but you don't do it, because you don't have to. It's the same.

Why should we report the problematic posts and why should you "hide that stuff with the spoiler tag"? We are not hostages of two users, are we? We have better things to do.

As Michael said, an announcement will be posted requesting users have some consideration while sharing this type of content. Weíll also be contacting some posters that share a lot of this content directly and ask them to follow the new guidelines. We want people to share media, as not everyone uses social media and some users enjoy it, so we donít want to discourage people from sharing altogether. If we find thatís not working, we can look at other options.

Admins have the same Avatar size restrictions as Premium members

Why complain about it then? Do you not think we have better things to do? No-one is forcing you to report posts, but if you arenít happy with the amount of them, the quickest way to get our attention and have it dealt with is to flag it to us. If you donít want to, thatís up to you.

Yes, it could have and should have been dealt with sooner, but it was obviously overlooked/missed.

Definitely not the "or 244.1 KB" part.

Code:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 144 by 168 pixels or 244.1 KB (whichever is smaller).

I raised the issue in Moderation Feedback Thread two months ago and it's been ignored since (except for friendly advice from Rads101). If it's not enough to get your attention, then what should I do more? Shoot a flare gun? Only thanks to this thread I know that you actually care about the issue. There is no communication whatsover on this forum. Posts are deleted and nobody knows why, threads are locked and nobody knows why, users are banned and everything is super confidential. And when you ask for help? Good luck. Don't be surprised people don't see your dedication and hard work, because they don't know what's going on all the time.

I see where you raised it in the Mod Feedback Thread so apologies if you felt that you were ignored. This thread was bumped a couple of weeks later which is probably why Michael has given some possible solutions to it in here. We try and communicate as much as we can, but we are human and only have so many hours in our day to spend on here, so there may be times when things are overlooked/missed. I know it's not ideal, but we also have jobs/studies away from the forum that take up most of our time.

If you have questions about why your posts are deleted, or a thread is closed, you are more than welcome to PM any mod/admin for a reason, likewise if you need assistance and feel that you aren't getting any response.

Announcement has been posted forum wide and we'll continue to monitor the situation going forward.

Once again, apologies for the delay in responding to this.
