Re: Why can't we have an ATP section/thread?

They wouldn't even let me discuss ATP tennis in Petra's forum. This forum is so strict and old fashioned with pointless rules. MTF mods are so much better and laid-back. Everything on tennis forum is about rules. Yawn...

MTF was created out of WTA World and at that time people who wanted to talk about men's tennis were directed to MTF and those who wanted to discuss women's did so in TF.

Over in MTF during the time of Scooby Doo/Snowwy/Carlita as Admins (or possibly even before that) it was decided for whatever reason that a women's tennis discussion thread was to be allowed there.

Who said there even needs to be an explanation?

I don't think there is some kind of rule that the forums *must* be an exact mirror of each other. Otherwise there'd be "fattest asses on wta tour" thread here.

actually the story is in the original thread.

Wtaw. - MensTennisForums.com

Apparently tennisforum/wta world was down sometime in 2008 due to technical errors so someone on MTF created a thread in the off topic section for tennisforum users to chat in the meanwhile. Over the course of a single day, apparently the thread was over 40 pages long. Somehow the thread survived on its own and it would became a free for all chat about WTA results and players as it is today (4th volume now). Intriguingly it is often a much fairer/'polite' chat thread about WTA than some comments I often see on tennisforum GM (as I guess the people who would post there genuinely like to watch both forms of tennis). The premise for keeping it according to the current mods is that some people might want a place to discuss WTA tennis without creating an account on tennisforum. As threads for hockey and other sports are allowed in non tennis chat threads, the mods reasoned it would be ok to just have a sole thread for WTA tennis in off topic (used to be in 'non tennis' chat threads) as long as no other WTA discussion was started in General Messages.

If someone starts an ATP thread on non tennis I think it's accordingly to the rules no?

Then join MTF and discuss away.

My vote is . . keep it out!! If people want to discuss the ATP let them join MTF.

Cool. So if I collect a good deal of signatures from other forum members asking for an ATP thread would the administration consider it?

Easy for you to say. I got a badrep saying "I hope you get AIDS f*ggot" just for saying Tennys Sandgren was a moron. That place is a sh*thole.

And so you want to turn this into one too? Hopefully the admins will hold the line on this.

Join Talk Tennis. It has 44,000 members so it's not that small.

Excuse me? How would having an ATP thread turn this forum into anything remotely comparable to that hotbed of chauvinism? Or in fact how would it even alter the forum in any negative way?

Everything starts somewhere. First a thread, then quotes elsewhere, then more ATP focused people join, etc.

Okay. If it's only a thread and if it's put in NT I won't get apoplectic about it.

There you go.

So all it takes is to get MTF shutdown for a few hours/days/whatever
