Question Avatar size

I noticed many users have bigger avatars than the requested 96x96 size limits, but everytime I try to upload a picture that exceeds those limits it always gets resized.
Can anyone explain how to upload bigger avatar pics without getting downscaled? Thanks

which posters?

Premium/lifetime members get to use larger avatars. https://www.tennisforum.com/payments.php

Also some posters use generic (stock) avatars which can be bigger than the custom avatars you choose for yourself.

Well done to Simona Halep on finally achieving her GS dream at RG. Never say die!

Li Na | Carla | Sloane | Venus | Kerber | Dasha

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley - Australian Legend: 14 GS - 7 singles

Dare to dream!

I didn't know about Premium members, but I just checked here https://www.tennisforum.com/53-tennis...my-avatar.html and there are other posters with regular account like Victim Noises with a bigger avatar than those predefined limits (don't know if the Premium rule applies to mods and admins, some of them have bigger avatars as well).
Same with Mike T here: https://www.tennisforum.com/1198-doub...ashkent-2.html.

Several posters that have a premium account have requested in the past to have their premium badge removed (which can be done). So sometimes posters will have a premium account, yet they are not showing the premium badge.

Back in the day, there were no paid Premium membership options, it was all entirely free and everyone had the larger sized avatar as standard. Then the paid-for Premium memberships were launched, and the larger sized avatar became only available to Premium members, and a new smaller sized avatar was made standard for free membership. Free membership could carry on with the larger size avatar, until such time when they changed their avatar, then they had to downsize. That’s why I have the larger size, because I’ve never changed it.

IIRC, when everything was free, there were feature options, but everything was paid for with some kind of points system. You accumulated points by posting and starting threads etc. One option was to customise the line under your username, but not only your username, you could change the same line under other members usernames too, which was a bit of fun. Like you could change it to ‘Maria’s #1 Hater’ and that member had to stick with it for about a month, or could change it back if they paid enough points. Something like that..
pov, Spirited Away and Matmagix like this.
