Question Problem with password

I had big problems today with my login. After 5 tries my password didn't work so I had to reset it. But I didn't receive the email with the new password, I had to create a new pseudo to tell you. But then impossible for me to post a message or a MP to any members! I had to use the report button to communicate... Finally I received the new password so it works fine now. But I have several questions:

1/ is my problem due to the new policy in passwords? (I did remember my password!)
2/ the reset operation is quite slow (need long time to receive the 2 emails - the 1st one with the link, the 2nd one with the new password), is it normal?
3/ why a new member cannot post a message or send a private message?
4/ could you please delete the new account I created (see the reported message)

Thanks

-Edit-

To help people, here are the new requirements for your new password:
Must be at least 10 characters
Must contain lower-case characters
Must contain upper-case characters
Must contain numbers
Must contain symbols

Thanks the admin for their help

Re: Problem with password

I had a very similar experience. I got the first email with the link very quickly, but it took about 40 minutes before I got the second one with the password. Because there was such a delay, I ended up going through the process twice.

Even once I'd worked out which of the password emails was newer, I still couldn't log in for a while, but I'm OK now.

Re: Problem with password

I had a similar problem for several hours today. I tried to login in with my original password again and again. Then I reset it for a couple of times, and finally I received a new password. Now this forum seems to work again like it should.

Re: Problem with password

1. Yes. Tons of people were affected, including some admins.
2. It shouldn't take that long, most likely. Should be faster now.
3. New registrations are currently confirmed manually, before they get the posting rights.
4. Done already.

Re: Problem with password

Yes, If your old password does not contain the needed characters, it will freeze your login. Click on to reset password.

Re: Problem with password

Same - I guess some changes were implemented over night? The forum would not let me login into today with my existing password - just said it was incorrect even though it is stored in my browser and has been the same probably since I joined the forum.

I tried to request a new one, but this failed several times over because I apparently did not perform the image verification. This was rather confusing since there was no image presented to verify in Classic I view. I eventually tried to switch into the new version and got it to work.

It seems the new password requirements are unnecessarily much more stringent (10+ characters, etc.). I can see why mine might have required a change, but on most sites a screen would come up telling you to reset password after your login, so you don't have to go through such a hassle.

Re: Problem with password

I just tried to change my password back to what it had been, and as I suspected (based on what has been posted above), it was no longer acceptable, because it did not meet the new rules. So I created a version that did meet the rules.

Had users been told "your password now needs to be changed before you continue, as it does not meet the new rules", I think a lot of trouble would have been avoided

Re: Problem with password

btw i dont agree with all the requirements of numbers and symbols

i would like to have my password as a word, for example i would use the password "incorrect" so i could just forget it and type in anything and get the reminder that the password is incorrect

Re: Problem with password

What a pain in the arse this was. Loads of attempts to sort it this morning, finally registered a new name, and then saw in this thread that the email reset was working again.

Why such complicated password requirements? It's a tennis fan talk site, not the bloody Pentagon.

And why not pre-notify us that it needed to be changed?

Re: Problem with password

This was a bit strange because this morning @Pete! messaged me that he had been logged out of his accounts and couldn't log back in. I went to check mine and it was working perfectly until around 12 hours after that, I was also logged out.

So then I tried the forgot my password button, got the email straight away. Clicked the link to rest my password and that email did not come until 1 hour later.

By the way, why is this happening? I went to check MTF and they were giving warnings about something to do with resetting passwords but how come we got nothing here?

Re: Problem with password

Yeah, same problems here. Plus, I made a new account (égali2) in order to report the problem, was immediately banned without even posting, and now I want to update my email address on my usual account, but I can't because I used that email address to register for the account I made today. Any way of fixing that problem?
