We need to talk about thread titles in GM

Ok, the use of [insert random name]-GOAT in thread title is getting out of hand, along with some ridiculous nicknames (Slavic Flower Aljona-GOAT, etc) that people hardly know. (I'm looking at you, certain user in my ignore list but other people could follow you and make things worse)

I don't want all titles be now "Williams d. Sharapova" it would be so boring but we should only allow nicks to those which are popular and thus are TF slang. [VIP] for example, yes. There's a history behind it and people should know by now.

I would start banning the use of the word GOAT in the titles because it lost all the meaning when any scrub is a GOAT nowadays. I don't mind people use it in posts but in thread titles is ugly and make GM look very dumb and messy tbh. We can totally get rid of it, the same way we don't allow offensive nicks.

This would be really unnecesary if all people was more careful and sensible but as some users are trying too hard, It's getting annoying and imo GM should be more easy to read and scroll specially since many of us enter via mobile phone with small screens.

I am sorry I only wish to be referred to as Divine Creator of the Norr Flowers Queen of Australia Pride of NSW Countess of Sydney chingching "Ching-GOAT" Troll

IMO if there are both players' surnames, tournament and round, then only boring people complain @gamesetmatchrafa @SAISAI-GOAT And it definitely won't become a ban able offence because legendary Mod Cross Court Rally has given me many good reps for my excellent nicknames @Javi is just pressed that I am much more popular than him and none of his faves are relevant enough to be a GOAT in my eyes

Re: We need to talk about thread titles in GM

i always wondered what a casual visitor might think about GM/TF when stumbling upon the numerous threads with those ridiculous, cryptic and totally unecessary thread titles involving either "GOAT", "flower", random/altering nicks/adjectives or even all of them, when he/she just wants to check on a result thread and read some helpful information about the match and the players involved.
i fully support the OP on this one, that crap should be banned.

Re: We need to talk about thread titles in GM

As long as the names of both players is there, then adding GOAT or Flower to it isn't against the rules. Nicknames are allowed in thread titles (within reason). Titles that make it unclear who the players are on the other hand will be edited.

Re: We need to talk about thread titles in GM

I have two users in my mind who overuse the words GOAT and FLOWER etc. which is indeed annoying, beside that it is obviously allowed to use those words, like John said, as long as the real name of the player is there as well.
But we edited thread titles in the past more often already and wil keep doing it and we obviously will talk to those as well who overuse the words mentioned above.

How ridiculous that overusing the word "Flower" and "GOAT" needs a talking to. Perhaps they should have their own Subforum?

Flower and Goat are fine within reason, but things like Estonian Mynx Nettu-GOAT def Dubrovnik Darling Anci-GOAT are not.

If you need any further clarification, I suggest reviewing the GM rules

12. Nicknames

Please do not use obscure nicknames in headers. Proper names are preferred for headers and the mods/admins will edit headers as deemed necessary.

Nicknames are a fun part of TF and GM, and it is our policy to allow nicknames that meet reasonable standards.

Most people will know immediately who these two users are.

The test I always apply in these situations is "what would happen if many other people behaved the same way?". The answer is that GM would become unusable. So the same rules need to be applied to everybody.

And obscure nicknames don't become less obscure just because someone insists on using them at every available opportunity. That would be to reward errant behaviour. I say this because a certain someone has been known to use this an excuse ...

I agree. But Estonian Mynx Nettu-GOAT Kontaveit vs Dubrovnik Darling Anci-GOAT Konjuh would be more than acceptable. And anyone Estonian Mynx has such a cult following that everyone in GM knows who she is anyway now. Her name has not reached the heights of Guest, VIP or even Borz, but she has arguably overtaken BFCD If the name is known (which it obviously is because posters love to lock it) then I see no reason why it shouldn't remain unedited.

Anyone who cant read the titles can only look at themselves. There are only two Anci and right now Minx can't beat the taller dumber Anci. Try to keep up at the back
