Sometimes listed as Helena. From a noble family with Slovak and Hungarian connections, most of her early life was spent in Hungary. Her first husband was the son of famous Hungarian minister Istvan Tisza. Both father and son were murdered in the revolutionary upheavals of 1918. Her marriage to him was annulled in 1917.
Ilona lived alternately in France, England and Switzerland, especially after leaving her estate at Hodkovska in the early 1930s. Abroad she was probably better known as Helena. Both her marriages were childless.
