Off-season thread: How will the Croatian women fare in 2018?

All: Here's a thread to try to liven up the off season.

Below are the WTA season-end rankings for the top 8 Croatian women. Please reply by saying whether you think their ranking at the end of the 2018 season will be HIGHER or LOWER than their 2017 ranking. (To make things simpler, let's assume that finishing next year with the exact same ranking as this year is not an option.) After a few days I will compile and post the consensus opinion.

I'll go first:

32 Mirjana Lucic-Baroni: LOWER
44 Ana Konjuh: HIGHER
56 Donna Vekic: LOWER
89 Petra Martic: HIGHER
98 Jana Fett: LOWER
151 Ajla Tomljanovic: HIGHER
222 Tereza Mrdeza: HIGHER
340 Tena Lukas: LOWER

Amazing that after everything she's been through, Mirjana ended 2017 as the top Croatian woman

No idea about Mrdeza and Lukas. Would not incloude players outside top 200 in this but OK.

Re: Off-season thread: How will the Croatian women fare in 2018?

32 Mirjana Lucic-Baroni: If she could stay inside top 50 for the season I'd be thrilled, so lower, hopefully not by a lot
44 Ana Konjuh: Higher, let's say top 25 (cause you never know with her injuries)
56 Donna Vekic: Given recent developments definately higher, ~35 would be awesome, but anything inside top 50 would be great really
89 Petra Martic: Definately higher, assuming she finds a stable team she's surely worth a lot more than 89, hopefully she closes in on top 50
98 Jana Fett: Maybe not by a lot, but higher, she should aim at around #80
151 Ajla Tomljanovic: Certainly higher, health permitting, hopefully around 80 as well
222 Tereza Mrdeza: Probably lower, although her ranking fluctuates a lot and then comes around to the same positions eventually so tough to call
340 Tena Lukas: Higher, she is surely too good for this ranking, should be inside 300, maybe even close 250

Just realized I'm the only one answering in whole sentences...oh well

Re: Off-season thread: How will the Croatian women fare in 2018?

OK, let's make an extended forecast :

10. Ani Mijacika SAME or LOWER
11. Iva Primorac LOWER
12. Ana Biskic SAME or BIT HIGHER
13. Mariana Drazic SAME or LOWER
14. Lea Boskovic MUCH HIGHER (400-500)
15. Oleksandra Oliynykova MUCH HIGHER (around 500-600)
16. Ena Kajevic HIGHER
17. Tea Faber UNRANKED

Darija Jurak will be ranked in doubles only.

Potential "nextgen" newcomers:

Zelic, Turkovic
Masic (in case she keeps playing tennis)
Mohac (a kind of "black swan" forecast... but let's wait for a year)

For Noa - I do not see her earning a single WTA point next year, let's go to N.K. thread for more of this interesting discussion.

Anyway, we all will get answers in a year.

I wish I could have written for Mirjana MUCH HIGHER, total PEAK
But hopefully they are working hard with Marin, however baby comes in January, so maybe Mikica will be in a very positive warrior mode.

I think we all hope we are wrong about our prediction of Mirjana dropping in the rankings by the end of 2018.

But, logically I can't see one saying otherwise. She has a SF to defend in Australia, SF in Monterrey, will be 36 in March, then has QF to defend in Miami and a SF in Charleston.

I would just be happy with one more run at a Slam and ranking be damned.
