Hey guys! Sorry, my laptop is messed up, so I can only post when I can snag one of the computers at the site. Can't upload pictures yet...I'll try to tomorrow.
I've only been here the last two days, but I've seen some great matches. Started the day yesterday with Dani and Srebotnik. Dani was playing well. Srebotnik is so darn crafty...she was slicing and dicing everywhere. You know the score, so I won't get into details at this point, but I'll try and post more about the details of the matches when I have more time. The really cool thing is that sitting with Dani's mom and Nigel was Jennifer Capriati...who was playing the next match! She sat there the entire first set and gave Dani a lot of support...encouraging her and trying to pump her up. It was really cool to see. Also, Kim Clijsters was there in the last set and was yelling encouragement to Dani as well. Jen came out during the tiebreak at the end and was standing up at the top of the stairs at the end of the court and obviously Dani noticed her, because when she won, the first thing she did was pump her fist at Jen. Very cool of those girls to encourage Dani.
Mary Pierce played really well yesterday, however, Conchi was pretty sick...I heard she left the site barfing everywhere
I talked to Mary right before her presser and told her I was happy she was playing again and that everyone had missed her on the tour. She was really nice and very chipper in her pc. Of course, she was the one blowing chunks today! She saved a set point in the first set and then had her own set point and lost it and then she totally got negative. Too bad cuz it was so close until that point. Lisa cleaned her clock after that.
Funny story about Lisa......she and LD were walking to the court to play their doubles match yesterday and this guy came up to her with one of those huge ass tennis balls and says, "Will you sign this, Chanda?" She does this double take and asks him, "Did you think I'm Chanda??" The guy didn't reply (and she did sign) and then she said, "If you think I'm Chanda, then you have serious issues." I was chuckling about it and Lisa looked at me and laughed and I asked her, "So, Lisa...when was the last time you were mistaken for Chanda?" She laughed and said, "Can't say as that's ever happened before."
I don't even like Lisa and we shared a laugh!
The Lina-LD match was ugly in the first set. I think at the most Lina scored like 10 points in the whole 14 minute set. Then all the sudden she woke up (and put some first serves in) and we had ourselves a match. It was a really good second set, but Lina faded in the tiebreak. LD was hitting some smoking winners and didn't seem bothered by the foot. Pam Shriver did an auction thing and was pretty funny after the match.
I'm skipping a lot, but I don't have time right now to write more. I'll try to post some more tomorrow morning before matches.
