Re: Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov

Not totally out of nowhere, she was junior #4 and was winning 10Ks at 16/17yo.

If I've got the timeline right...

2016 - she suffers a broken foot and gets burned out on tennis, goes to university in Oklahoma
July 2017 - transfers to Florida Atlantic
late 2017 - decides she wants to give pro tennis another try, puts Florida degree on hold?

Re: Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov

She is on a great winning streak, she won two ITF tournaments in a row and now she has won two more matches in US Open qualifying so far

Rus will be tough but there is a chance Aliona can win because she is playing really well right now, it could be a close match

WOZNIACKI - A. RADWANSKA - MCHALE - SPANISH PLAYERS

What is her story? When did she leave Moldova(?) and end up in Spain?

From what I understand, she's still going to school and playing tennis there. She was 19-0 in singles in 2017-18 and was as high as #3 in the college rankings. She didn't play the singles championship and opted to play an ITF in Spain instead that week - which is understandable as foreign players don't benefit from that event.

I believe she transferred to FAU to be able to play more pro events while also playing on the team and going to school. This program seems more lax and it's not in as big of a conference as when she was at Oklahoma State.

I am not sure what she's going to do for this upcoming season as she *would be* going into her junior year. But if she's top 150 maybe she would now put her degree on hold the last two years and try and go pro now. It would be hard to give up this paycheck if she also finds herself in the first or second round of the MD.

QR3: $30,000

R2: $93,000

She moved to Spain at the age of 3 from Moldova. Both of her parents are Olympic athletes from Moldova (no shade, but I just read it from the first page of the thread )

It must be really lax then. She's played 13 tournaments this year, 10 of them in Europe - would that really allow for any meaningful college commitments?

From an article almost a month ago, Bolsova is forgoing her last two seasons and has turned pro. Promising results to start out!

Re: Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov

It’s incredible how quickly she has risen considering she started playing again ITF unranked about a year ago and it’s not like she has played many tournaments.
Great to know she decided going pro after all these great results.
She has been working with former “TF favorite” Lourdes Domínguez Lino BTW as coach for the lasts months

Lost to Iga in AO qualifying, hope she can get her ranking up inside the top 100 come RG or Wimbledon so she automatically be in the MD
