212- Piano
Dancing Queen, Abba

I cannot say that piano is my favourite instrument. It’s so hard for your song not to sound corny with random solos or extremely boring. That’s why I focused on finding a dance song or a song that wasn’t centred on the piano. I stumbled across Dancing Queen, because apart from the initial few seconds, I don’t really assosciate the song with piano, and I assumed Dancing Queen was already sent. No surprise this was a real hit, but I had to settle for 2nd behind some random song idk. Would’ve been nice to have two iconic dance songs to win, also it’s been so long since my solo win. In the end I got an iconic song in my little discography, and I can’t be too disappointed with second place.

Re: The Immaculate Collection: QV's Career Retrospective

213- Especially For You
I Need a Man, Eurythmics

In the end I missed out on a final by one point. The thing is, I didn’t get points where it mattered. The point of this game was to dedicate a song to another player, and my player @Wally gave me no points. I was panicing because I was struggling to come up with a song for anyone (except already sent or songs i’m holding on to for later). Initially I sent a cover of Mac Demarco’s “My Kind of Woman” by Poppy:

I chickened out though, I was undecided whether Wally or anyone else would like it as a cover, even though I really loved it. Desperate, I assumed Wally would be a Eurythmics and particularly Annie Lennox fan given his love of female fronted rock bands, and sent MY personal favourite from them. It achieved pretty good praise, and I naturally felt I was a lock in the final. Maybe it was a good thing? Especially given that my intended recipient gave it no points

Anyway here are my other choices for some other players in the game:

@TIEFSEE
Bleach Blonde Baby, Poppy

@Slazorin
Anywhere, Rita Ora

@John.
What Do I Have To Do, Kylie Minogue

@AdeyC
I Heard a Rumour, Bananarama

Re: The Immaculate Collection: QV's Career Retrospective

Interesting fact: Marc Lopez asked Eva Longoria which album would she listen to if she is "alone on the island for the rest of her life".
Eva responded "The Immaculate Collection by Madonna".

Unpopular opinion: The Immaculate Collection would be more immaculate if she waited until later in her career to release, also she should have never left off legit hits like Dress You Up, True Blue, Who’s That Girl, Causing a Commotion (even if they’re not as strong as the songs on TIC)

215- Wet
Jump In The River, Sinead O’Connor

I mean does anyone think on poor Sinead apart from the atrocity that was “Nothing Compares 2 U” and her suicidal tendencies? I didn’t. And now I know, that song is definitely not representative of Sinead’s music. I think the guitar work and lyrics of this song represent Sinaed’s music and what great music she could make. Unfortunately like every alt-rock/rock submission these past couple of weeks it’s been kind of a flop

216- Spring Awakening
Neue Luft, Clueso

Re: The Immaculate Collection: QV's Career Retrospective

217- Hypnosis
Faded, Zhu

Me at 13-14 years old loved this kind of edm. Gaga, Skrillex and yes Zhu and particularly this song were constantly playing on my iPhone 4 on the iTube app. In retrospect edm was a terrible phase for me, it’s a trashy genre. This song endures for me, it’s more than just a a collection of sounds scrambling for dominance, it’s well thought out, sensual and sexy. Please imagine me at 14 grinding in my bed. Nowdays, I realise it’s hypnotic quality, that’s what sets it apart from edm and most of Zhu’s own music and why I chose it for this game. Really proud it got a podium finish, if it weren’t for Adam’s eternal “vulturing” as Čeda puts it, I could’ve won (even though I did give his song 12 ).

218- Post Disco
No GDM, Gina X

This was one of the worst games I think I ever played. This is the sort of trash Shvedbarilescu enjoys, and it wasn’t trash. It was garbage beyond anything possible. My song was actually alright, didn’t particularly care for it, didn’t vote so it missed out on a final (which I would’ve been in if I voted). This doesn’t deserve a GIF tbh, useless game.

219- Walpurgis Night
That’s All, Anja Garbarek

I was very excited for this theme because it fits ambient electeonica, one of my favourite genres, so well. I know I wanted to send something low-key and haunting, exactly what this song is, it’s very dark. I can’t remember how I found Anja, but I know I really enjoy her late 90s work, it’s like Björk without the chaos and quite muted. The flutes paired with the electronic track really inspired me in the fantasy sense of the theme. I think the distinction between Björk and Anja Garbarek is the vocals, the contrast between Björk’s chaotic guttural roaring and Anja’s soft harmonies. The mixture between natural instruments and electronica is really soothing, and I was extremely disappointed losing in the semi-final. Meanwhile tons of classical music did. Subpar classical music

Re: The Immaculate Collection: QV's Career Retrospective

220- The ASEAN Way
Bakit Nga Ba, The Mongols

I wasn’t keen for this game, in general the quality of music from South East Asia is quite poor. I searched very hard for something resembling something of quality from europe, japan or korea to no avail. Some people have the nerve to suggest a lot of Asian music doesn’t get the success of western artists in the game, however especially European music has a lot of emphasis on quality production and songwriting. So much I saw in this game and in others from South East Asian countries is crap. There are exceptions, I was pleased with the winner, a Thai indie song, and i’d say my Filipino alt-rock song, but this game was messy as and I didn’t enjoy it at all. I believe I should’ve been placed higher, it was a unique song.
