Re: JMG song game history

250 - Europe Exclusive / Stranded
L.A.Salami - I Wear This Because Life Is War (21st)

I chose to send L.A.Salami from London. He even sells a book with his poetry, shows how thoughtful his lyrics must be. The concert confirmed the song was the right choice. Love the generic bassline here.
A bit of a tragedy that I had to choose between going to L.A.Salami or the BSG legend Julia Holter, who played the same evening. I like her voice, but probably not a good part of her music.

251 - Prev. Nominated
Parquet Courts - Total Football (15th)

Another poor result in the final, but actually most of the good players gave decent points. My favourite would have been "Before The Water Gets Too High", but thought it would be too deep and slow for BSG. A lot of their songs have the type of prominent bass play I like to hear in concerts. Good stuff, influenced by Fela Kuti.
The Crow and Silent Bird like this.

Oh, wow, nice info! Total Football was not just for me, that's all. You really have good sends. Keep them going! Tho, I must say that I enjoy your MTF sends more than here.

The bass player said he watched a lot of Kuti for the latest album. Not sure about MTF, since my best send ever was probably Jambinai and you insulted it.

I did, but I appreciate other sends more than your winning song.

Re: JMG song game history

253 The Murlocs - Loopholes (7th)
One of the one word titles on my list. I don't remember from where I know them, maybe a bandcamp recommendation.

254 Sonic Jesus - It's Time To Hear (10th)
Secret Santa theme...I tried to make it fit into histery's previous theme, which was a game I didn't play. I chose one of Sonic Jesus' older songs, a nice dark, haunting song. They also have new, different sounding material. Last month I was unlucky I couldn't see them in a "Cave" venue because their tour van broke, but saw them earlier in the year as a support for New Candys, which is quite a perfect concert for me (but there weren't more than 20 people).

255 Herbie Hancock - Rain Dance (7th)
At first I had some completely unknown avantgarde jazz from bandcamp, but later I checked one of N.M.'s videos and liked the Hancock song. The intro alone is worth 12 points, but somehow 12 of 25 voters gave zero points...

256 Lorelle Meets The Obsolete - Ana (4th)
I had several options for this game and I'm glad I changed my original submission to this one. I only know about this band because the main guy from New Candys is part of their touring band at Europe dates. Lorelle was another candidate for the Secret Santa theme, but hard to judge which one histery would like. I could see them soon if I really wanted to, but I would have to sell my Massive Attack ticket.

Re: JMG song game history

257 - Name Of Places
Inna Modja - Tombouctou (DNQ)
I saw her once and didn't mind it. She had great hair. Not a song I ever wanted to send, but I was short on options again. Not sure why it finished this bad though.

259 - Southern Cone
Sumo - Breaking Away (DNQ)
Enjoyable song because of the bassline. Was the best submission by someone on mtf in the bassline theme.

260 - Open
Horace Andy - See A Man's Face (17th)
This song is currently on the setlist of Massive Attack. I noticed the song "(Exchange)" on Mezzanine uses the lyrics of this song. On their current tour, they play (Exchange) instrumental, followed by the "See A Man's Face" cover with Horace Andy singing.

261 - The 2014 WTA Singapore Finals
Jambinai - They Keep Silence (DNQ)
Difficult theme, so in the end I had to nominate this band again. This song gave me a win on MTF. I submitted this epic live studio video there, but it sounds similar. The part from 1:40 is ecstatic.

Game 208 (prev. Un-nom)
Jambinai - Time Of Extinction (6th)

One of the best bands I've seen in 2017, and even in a very small venue. Almost surprising they were unnominated, since everyone you has seen them praises their performance. This is probably my 2nd favourite track from them after "They Keep Silence". Both of these songs have a nice geomungo riff.

Re: JMG song game history

262 - F***, Marry, Kill
Wooden Shjips - Already Gone (DNQ)
Nothing wrong about this song, but maybe I should have used more of a guilty pleasure song. They will be playing some shows with the recently submitted Kikagaku Moyo soon, a show I look forward to.

264 - Weather
Fat Joe Ft. Lil Wayne - Make It Rain (DNQ)
In this one I mainly like the hook. A late submission, didn't find many other songs. Maybe "Naked In The Rain" by Pearl Jam or the cover by Tunng could have done a bit better.

266 - BSG Namesakes
Marcus Fjellström - Reanimation Music (DNQ)
Very late submission again, found it in the last hour in the avantgarde section of a nordic music website. Had only time to listen to it once, but thought it was an interesting listening experience, as well as a good video.

267 - Endless Harmonica
The Residents - My Window (2nd)
I thought I would never make a final with a Residents after several attempts, but this one was pretty easy. Not sure who made the video for it, but it is funny how sad it is, devastating stuff, fits the song very well. The album "Animal Lover" is possibly their only one that features the harmonica on some songs (and it is credited on discogs, which helped me re-discovering it). It is probably their second most liked album post 2000 behind "Demons Dance Alone". A massive vulture ended up winning this game, but at least some Residents are big fans of Morricone.

269 - That Summer Feeling
Mari Kvien Brunvoll - Joanna (DNQ)

Finished last with this, I guess the voice can be annoying. I didn't like the "snow is falling"-lyrics since it was a summer feeling theme, but didn't care and sent it anyway.
