An Interesting Elena Interview. October 2009

This russian article http://kastamag.com/elenium/ was in Elena Official Forum (the internation one)
and has been translated by Pixievodka a member of the Official Forum
Credit to Pixievodka

Here is the translation of this interview, some of the magazine Russian language is so different from everyday language... ....

FROM Russian to English...

One of Russia’s most stable performing tennis player—Elena Dementieva, the world number 5 of WTA ranking, qualified for the end of year tournament for the 9th time. Prior to her departure to Doha, we caught up with her this autumn in Moscow, to talk about many stuff, not all about tennis.

The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe cabinet

It is the 12th hour, midnight, in the vast space of Candy factory “Red October” photo studio, Elena Dementieva sits on a white cube and it is the 4th hour of the photo shooting, Elena was wearing a shirt with a hood, with no emotion on her face, looking straight into the camera.

“Here”—Elena’s Mum—Vera Dementieva clapping her hands in the dark.

The camera crews cracked into laugh, it seems ready to break the ice on her face, sooner Elena is back in the frame.

Art director of PROSPORT Roman can not believe that is how Elena was, Roman wants to achieve a strong public influence so he tirelessly offers more new options and post, even gave Dementieva a shiny metal tripod in her hands.

“I will not withdraw from this shooting, as I agreed” said Dementieva.

The crew suggests Elena to have a look at the clothes, Clothing attracts more attention from Elena. She was very pleased to wear a jumper-suits that designed by a Russian designer.

“ Before and during her 1st trip abroad, I was very interested in shopping but then there were few opportunities. Now I can buy anything I like, but the joy is gone”.

Roman came to aid Julia (a crew), “I want Elena to shine, I wanted so much”. So he offered Dementieva a pair of earrings in the form of small light bulbs.

Ooops sir! Lena does not have piercings on her ears.

Elena Dementieva was really without ear pierces. Elena is Polite, perfectly educated, intelligent, discreet, always a long natural blonde hair. On court is always in the visor, and pigtail. Always close to his mother, Vera Semyonovna.

“I like that, and I do not want to change it” said calmly and confidently .
Dementieva is certainly no where like the hero of “caravan of stories”, in her life, there is never enough biography but not caravan.

Lena herself believes that the French school affected her perception of the world, gave the charge of Francophonie:

I always wanted to play at Roland Garros, and winning there. I like to go to museums, the feeling…. You know, I love it. I like French films, all the nuances, the subtleties of emotional experiences--- all of these are closer and clearer than American films.

enjoyed reading "Oscar and the Pink Lady" by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt.
- A Gavalda, Catherine Pankol?
- I do not like women's fiction. I do not like French cooking!
- In what kind of restaurants do you go to Paris?
- In what restaurants we go to Paris? - Look in the direction of Vera Semyonovna. That shrugs. Lena says:
- Well, sometimes you can go and in French. Fortunately, we have such energy-intensive sport that you do not have to worry about calories. The very next day after the birthday and New Year, I know: one training session - and no extra weight.
This year, in mid- October, Dementieva turned 28.
“actually, I felt as if I am 18”. I myself do not feel, dressed or even want to know about my age. However, there is one advantage that I became more aware of myself and my surroundings. I learn to forgive myself and encourage myself. The situation has changed, from one to another, what I am having now, will pass.”

This year, Lena entered the Pedagogical University, the Faculty of Philology, Department of Journalism.
- – “We need to think already about what will happen after tennis” - reasonable notice from Mama Vera Semyonovna.
I think life is impossible without tennis, I think I'll always play! - Lena laughs. and after a long considering discussion between Lena and her mother regarding choosing the education. And then suddenly realized: journalism!
In sports journalism today, not so many people who can cover the tennis competently. They also say that the study of journalism is very exciting. When I looked up a list of items the first course, I understood that I was not mistaken: I always wanted to write competently, correctly speaking, to learn foreign languages. Therefore, with a light heart began to study.
About how she wanted to be realized in practical journalism, Dementieva does not know yet. But she knows exactly what will be its corporate identity - patriotism!

The winner of Sydney Olympic silver medal and gold in Beijing, Dementieva knows the Patriotism--- “when I listen to tennis commentary, lucky I have a the opportunity to compare the styles of commentators of different countries, I felt our journalists (NOTE Russian journalists) are lack of patriotism. Some commentators are not only imposing their own opinions but objectively assessing the situation and the opponents, empathize with our athletes. What ever they are. Good or bad---- They want the fans to have the best--- because the fans are the best.

However, Dementieva's a sin to complain. Reading tennis forums, every time said, as fans affectionately call her - the lady, as tactfully and carefully dismantle it matches, as touchingly willing victories and consoled after losing.

Next to me is a group of people who supported me for many years. They travel to all tournaments, regardless of my results. It happens: you lose in the first round, sitting at home completely shattered, and they send flowers, and there is little note with the wishes of new victories. It is so nice!

You talk to them? Communicate?
- We do not know each other very closely. Not because I'm arrogant, they're just being modest people. They understand the rhythm in which I live, and do not require extra attention. They just politely support me and never try to invade my personal space. We, of course exchanges “hello.” That 's All.
– Just curious to know, are they men? How are your fans?
- - It is quite understandable, as are tennis fans. It is closer in touch with tennis for at least several days, a man turns into a tennis fan.

- Do you have favorite tournaments?
- I said - "Roland Garros". Recently, my mother and I spent two days in Zurich - and were quite happy. Now going to the tournament in Doha - is one of my favorite tournaments. There all familiar. It is very important - to feel comfortable traveling.
Have you ever had people invade your personal spaces?
“ I have never in this situation before, if I am in a difficult position, I am usually helped. My Mom is here at the 1st place.”
How do you manage to restrict their communications, avoid unwanted screams and even accidental contacts?
“It is difficult to establish close contact, than to keep their distance. I always keep a distance. I find it difficult to open up and trust.”
Elena sees an unfamiliar face in the studio and asked in a stern voice “ who is that?” It turned out to be a friend of the producer who came to see the shooting, calmly restored her original emotion as the young man left. Elena calmly tried the next outfit.
When asking Lena if she remembered her first Viennese Ball in Moscow.
Yes, a fantastic story - she said absently. - It was five years ago. When I called and invited, the first words were: "No! I do not dance. " But I was persuaded.
– Lena had a wonderful coach, a famous dancer Alexey Popov - also Vera Semyonovna. - He taught Lena waltz.
Elena explained that “the key of the dance is to keep the posture, it’s very nice to get out there, I was in a dancing dress on the floor with a diadem on my head, I felt I can not do step by step to get it right.”
The sense of style and the ability to bring out the best of herself, Elena got it from her mom. “I do not remember that my mother has taught me anything specifically. But mother never wants us to imitate others. I remember in my childhood, many of my clothes and my brothers clothes were sewed by my mother. And I remember my mother always took us to studio and get photos taken and other photos were always asked to leave a copy that the studio can display them on the windows as advertisings. I remember in kindergarten, we had a dress up party for Christmas, my mother sewed a dress for me overnight, and it got painted blue ”.
“Yeah the painting!” recalled Vera. “from a wig made of blue paper strip”.
Lena, do you remember the boy in your school portfolio?
“yes, of course, he was top grade student”.
And you? An excellent student too?
Yes I am a good student, Lena said modestly. What happened was it’s very hard to stay in this school. To have classes with sports training in high school doesn’t quite go well, so Mom had to work very hard to keep me in school. But my friends from childhood and school are very close to me. So I do not understand why look for someone on Odnoklassniki? (NOTE Odnoklassniki is www.odnoklassniki.ru/, a Russian social network website, similar to myspace and facebook).

Great interview, with nice new things to know about our beloved.

Man, I already noticed before, but she doesn't even have her ears pierced!

Museums, French films...
Damn, Lena and I are too different, I don't think I have a chance lol
It's all yours Max

She's cute when she talks about her fans.

Entertainments Manager of the renovated SS Dementieva

"How's uncommonly that I have all of you: my fans - my friends! I couldn't leave without saying you THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the support, devotion and love!
I feel it not only here in Moscow, when I'm on top and win.
It helps me go-ahead and hang tough. Thank you for warmth of your wishes. I LOVE YOU. MY VICTORIES ARE FOR YOU!"

Re: An Interesting Elena Interview. October 2009

Some women have a hard time getting their ears pierced because of the shape of their ears. Neither the ex or my mom had their ears pierced and their ears actually look kind of like Lena's. Or maybe she just never wanted them pierced. Funny, cause she's just a girly-girl in so many ways.

A nice interview. I don't think it's surprising that her fans give her some space. She just kind of commands that respect, I think, because she is a lady...who happens to AFR.

I hope I get to see her play live someday. Anyway, thanks for posting this interview, which, as usual, did nothing to lessen my Lena fever.

Maybe it's better she doesn't grow back bangs. I might not be able to take it.

The fans she talks about, are a group of members of her Official Forum. When they follow Elena they have a russian flag with Elena image on it, so Elena can see where they are when she plays.
On the Forum, we call them the International Team of Elena fans(all ages from 18 to 60 years old). Everybody can be part of team. Reading their posts, when they are at a tournament you get the respect they have for Elena and the respect that Elena has for them.
What she said about them is very nice.

Interesting that she is studying journalism. It's nice to know it might still be possible to see her when her tennis is over.

But will they be able to put her in the same booth as her frenemy Nastya?

You know very well that what you said isn't true.

You, as member of the official forum, knows who are the guys of the team.
There are students and there are people with a regular job. There are young people and other older. They save money and they spend their holiday to go to one or two tournaments.
They are from Russia, England, Romania, Italy, France, USA, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain and so on.
We aren't rich, some of us are lucky because there are tournaments in Europe and in US, close to where we live.

They way you don't respect who always has been kind and friendly with you never stop of surprise me.

To be honest I don´t know them as I don´t read their reports , I tend to jump those messages 100% of the time

BTW , the support Elena receives is very poor imo , hardly I hear people saying her name or giving noisy applauses after a point won by Elena. She seems a player without fans

See how the argentines , chileans , serbs , greeks root for their players, that is the way

Elena appreciate us. She hears us and often she said when she is in a diffucult moment give a look to her fans and this helps her.
I think you don't mind, if her opinion for us count more than yours-

Well next time join us and show us how to do it.
I repet it again:

Sin dios,

I have to recognize that I like to read your little and endless squabbles between you and Fredlander.
It is sometimes funny when it does not go too far and gives some liveliness particularly during the offseason.

But this time, listen to Qwerty who probably met Elena more than anyone here.
One of the reason this team is appreciated by Elena is that they never overstep the red line.Never!
I remember at the creation of the official forum that one of the rule was always to respect Elena's privacy. The founders of this site trusted theses people and allowed them to meet Elena so closely that you can not imagine.

Believe me, It is just passion and modesty with this team , definitively not really a lot of money around here.
And it is true, sometimes, you don't hear many people on the court, tennis is not Football but you can be sure that some members of this team are not very far.
I just hope than one day, you can experience the same feeling.Really....it worth
