These are the two highest ranked girls in the tournament by WTA rankings.

Just when you think the USTA couldn't possibly make any more humiliating public blunders...

Re: 2014 USTA National Championships

I lost to Ariadna Riley's brother in juniors. She was killing it in the 10s now she is at the National 18s.

This is a USTA event. Their WTA rankings don't mean a thing.

Yet clearly they should. Porter is obviously one of the top 8 players in this field. The USTA itself ranks her 3rd among players in this field in the most recent national rankings provided to the ITF pro circuit just last week.

If the USTA is going to select and seed players for junior nationals by a criteria that is irrelevant to the career paths of the top seeds in this event, what's the point?

Let's not forget that 3 of the top 5 seeds here (Chirico, Austin, Tornado) and 6 of the top 16 had to receive wildcards to even make the field. Apparently those players are not worthy of selection, but deserve top seeds? And Porter somehow achieved the opposite? It's entire baffling and makes the USTA look pretty incompetant IMHO.

Re: 2014 USTA National Championships

USTA listened and remade the draw with Porter at #6 seed, ending up in Bellis quarter. This has shuffled some of the seeded players around. The first post has been edited with all the changes to the draw in bold.

USTA

Very glad to see that. Not an easy decision to take even a few days in advance of the tournament, but definitely the right thing to do.

Re: 2014 USTA National Championships

Really need Louisa to win this. I think she's the only one who can actually win a round at the US Open (at this stage of everyone's career). It's a shame Gibbs ended up with the other WC.
CC Bellis, Tornado and Gordon are others that would be pretty interesting to see play a 1st round at the US Open.

I also think Stewart is the best bet to win a round.

Would love to see Kat too! She's a great girl with a bigger game than a lot of the players here
