Alexandra's "Comeback" By-The-Numbers!

Here's a breakdown of Stevenson's "comeback", even giving her the privilege of including the 2004 season -- the last season wherein she made any hint of $$$ and the last season in which she played (and lost) a MD match at a Grand Slam.

Keeping in mind that it has been estimated that the AVERAGE expenses/costs for a player to perform a full schedule on a combined Tour/Challenger circuit are $150,000, we'll give Alexandra a VERY VERY conservative annual cost of $65,000 per year in order to get to events, stay in hotels, eat, string racquets, train, buy clothing, pay her electric bills, & general cost of living.

That being said, in 9 years, 2004-2012, Aexandra's "Comeback" By-The-Numbers:

177 total tournaments played (99 ITF/Challenger) (78 WTA Tour)

135 matches won ... 179 matches lost (she once lost twice in the same event as a Lucky Loser. Interestingly, she also RETIRED in both losses at this same event!)

.43 winning percentage.

0 tournament victories.

No matter what she plays, ITF or Tour, she wins an average of 1.3 matches per event. The vast majority of those wins have come in qualifying draws, whether ITF or Tour.

$198,556 in prize money over almost 9 years.

Est. LOSS/DEBT of $42,943 per year on tennis career. (She's basically amassed a deficit of probably about $400,000 as a "career pro" for nearly 9 years, if following the CONSERVATIVE estimate of overall cost-of-living to just play a full schedule on even the Challenger Tour)

Average earnings of $22,061 per year.

32 Wild Cards awarded in 9 years. (There is clearly some connection between Stevenson and the Family Circle/Charleston event, possibly through her father's infuence. She has received some wild-card to this event virtually every year, into either qualifying or MD, when she has not qualified by ranking. This has not occurred with any other WTA event for her).

45 RETIREMENTS in a total of 314 matches. (Average of 6 retirements a year for 8 years).

Things look especially bleak since 07, when she has played 22, 25, 28, 24, and 26 tournaments annually (not counting the 8 played thus far in 2012).

Her prize money averages for these years are especially abysmal. For example (2010 ... 24 events played, $17,800 earned).

She is not known to have any active clothing or racquet sponsors.

Of course, this does not factor-in any support received from the father after their reuinion, nor whatever mother earns via Social Security (can't be too much) but that's the overall math.

Not good. She could make $50-60,000 as a pro at a REALLY nice club, and be WAY ahead of this mess. C'mon, Alexandra.

Someone might've paid them a fairly good advance for a tell-all book (they are/were allegedly writing one) when she was still relevant, back in 1999-2002, but not now. No way. It would never sell. ("And that day I played a really rough match against Julia Boserup in Boodleputte, Ohio ...").

Clock is ticking.
