Williams in 05

BTW, this is a thread for williams fans

So what do we expect from our girls in 05? What is going to happen with Serena and her abdominal strain? Will she be at the AO? Is Venus going to continue her slump?

I personally think Venus is going to come out firing this year. I know Serena was injured for their exhibitions but Venus had NO mercy, which I think is very good for her. I liked what I saw of Venus at the USO, and her indoor season was ok, but she never plays really well in that part of the year. Venus hasn't won a slam in 3.5 years and hasn't been to a final in 1.5 - The motivation factor should be higher than ever and I'm really hoping she's buffing up in this off-season. One of the things that worries me about the latest Venus is her body. She looks WAY thinner than she ever was and I think she needs to get to the gym! With Serena, Kim, Justine all injured...this could be an awesome oppurtunity for Venus' first AO title. BUT, she has losses to Mauresmo, Sharapova, and Davenport from USO 04-through the present. Venus usually never loses to the same player twice in a row but she seems to have fallen back into bad habit;s against the BIG L.

Serena is a mystery right now. She has this abdominal strain but says it;s not a huge worry. Shouldn't it be? If it's the same as Venus'? But then again, I truly believe Venus could have come back a lot eariler than she did last year. I think both girls needed a break from the tour. thought?

I hope Venus has a good season. But I am really just a Serena fan. I hope Serena gets back to top 5 and if she plays like YEC before the finals all year it wont be hard to even get back to Top 3..no much to defend in the begining or that much at all whereas the Russians have alot to defend

fuck.

I don't know why you mention Kim, and Justine Venus owns those two. She's 7-1 against jhh I can't remember kim but I know she has a big winning record against her.

I'm sure Serena will be at the Australian Open, the only problem is, Will her stomach have healed with enough time so that she is properly prepared for it?? meaning, did she get enough training, full out practice sessions etc.
If the Answer is yes, Im sure she will do fine.

I think Venus will also feel alot less pressure next year, and she seems extremely motivated to do well. I think in 2004 she wanted to quickly come back and dethrone the belgians to get back to the top where she was in 02-03 and put too much pressure on herself. Since she seems to be healthy, I really have a good feeling Venus will do very well next year, I see her getting back to the top.

As far as Serena, if she is healthy, then she's a given. She still has the BEST game in the WTA (very close with Venus tho) and it's still evident when watching her matches that she cares very much about tennis. If she starts off the year on the right track, doing well in the exhibitions against top players, she will get the confidence she needs to plow through the field in Australia.

I think Serena is extremley motivated to get back to #1, for in her mind she still is, and still considers herself "the best". Venus will do exactly the same, so I think 05 will be a very exciting year for them and their fans.
I Can't Wait!!

I mentioned Kim and Justine b/c they are top players...and often in grand slam finals. I'm a Venus fan and am well aware of her record against the belgians...but as a realistic fan, I also know that the last time Venus played Justine was almost two years ago, before both changed as players considerably.

Venus Williams most likely will find her form again. Serena Williams, i am predicting will be in Top 3 by end of the year. According to her- her injury from the Tour Championships has subsided which is why i expect her to do REALLY good in the Australian.

```HONG KONG Jan 6, 2005 — Serena Williams says she is ready to reclaim the No. 1 women's tennis ranking now that she's fully recovered from a stomach muscle injury.
The former top ranked player slipped to No. 7 after an injury-marred season, but plans to be in top form for the Australian Open later this month. Williams, 23, said she doesn't think there "there would be any problems" about getting back to No. 1.
"Everybody who plays me, plays me so hard because they always want to beat me," Williams said Thursday at the Champions Challenge exhibition event. "I am going to get ready for each match from the first round to the final. For me, I just have to watch out for everybody."
The six-time Grand Slam winner took some time off toward the end of last year after injuring her injury.```
~~She will be a force to be reckoned with this year. I think she learned from the Tour Championships that she does NOT have to serve 127 mph serves to win a match. She served 3 consecutive 120+ serves against Sharapova, and one being 129 which was a fault. No wonder she injuryed herself. I think the slow serves in the beginning of the games is a very effective tactic. When someone steps on the court to play Serena Williams they IMMEDIATELY expect very fast serves. I believe if she starts serving slower (95mphish) she will be able to get more first serves in the long run.
~~But all this talk about Serena not going to the Australian and/or being injuryed is non-sense. If the women says she is healthy and says she is VERY confident then we must believe her.
