Draw note: It would be odd if Dalton/Durr wern't seeded. The draw suggests a #1 OR #2 seeding. Resolve if possible.

Nancy Richey Gunter is on a roll. On a windy finals day she takes her 6th Master's title in St Petersburg. This is her 22nd win out of her last 23 matches and her third consecutive tournament win. The Texan takes the first set of the final vs Chris Evert rather easily as Chris double faults 3 times. The second is closer, but Nancy comes back from 2-4 by breaking twice. Afterwards she explained how she beats Chris: "Other pros get impatient with Chris. They try to put balls away in 3 or 4 strokes. you can't do that against her. ...you must be ready to to return a lot of balls, waiting for the one you can put away."

Evert: "She's my nemesis. I feel confident going up against Billie Jean King or Rosie Casals, but I don't seem to have a chance against Nancy.", and "Nancy Gunter has surpased Billie Jean King...she's the world's #1 tennis player this year."

On the way to the final Evert routined Billie Jean yet again on clay. King's only consolation was she got 5 games-four more than she did at Ft Lauderdale. Billie jean tried numerous drop shots to draw Chris to the net. More often than not Evert reached the teasers and put them away for winners.

Last weeks surprise winner Marie Neumanova crashed down to earth by losing 1 and 2 in the 1R.
