Court returns again, by winning here she keeps a record of having won an event every year since 1960. Oddly enough her closest match is the 1R, where she encounters old rival Lesley Turner Bowrey-they toured together in 1961! Lesley had the poor luck of having to qualify. Her match vs Court was her second, having qualified in a straight sets win earlier in the day. Tired as Bowrey must have been her opponent also was worn out. Court later got treatment for cramps from an English faith healer.

Betty Stove layed into Court after losing their semifinal. Betty said Court questioned too many calls and took too much time during changeovers. "One I had enough time to take a shower", the Dutch woman opined. Stove added she had to play three opponents, "myself, Margaret, and the Lord. And I thought he was supposed to be help to us all." Clearly the swipe was aimed at Court's increasingly open religious views.

there were 15 service breaks in the 39 games of Fromholtz-Kloss QF encounter.

This mini-tour in Hawaii was put together by Gladys Heldman. When the WTA refused to sanction the event because of the entry of transexual Renee Richards Heldman went on without a sanction. Thus neither event counted the computer rankings.

Aussie Karen Krantzcke walks off court in protest after only two games in the semis vs Richards. The New York Times, however, cites her wrist injury. Karen had wrist surgery 14 months ago.
