Draw note: Vlotman (nee Truter) is variously listed as Elizabeth or Liz in draws.

Bettyann Stuart is finding success on her return to the tour. Here at mission Viejo she upset the #4 seed Boshoff. She is the mom of a 3 year old boy.

Evert rolled through the draw with ease for the most part. Her toughest test came from Janet Newberry, who held 6 set points in set 1 but failed to convert. By taking the $10,000 top prize her overall prize money take for 1975 stands at over $300,000.

Cynthia Doerner is the sensation of this event. An Aussie who married a fellow Aussie, she lives in Fresno, California, where her husband is a teaching pro. Doerner storms through the field, taking out Navratilova on a brutally hot day. Cynthia used lobs and drop shots to run the overweight Czech around the court. Martina had won indoors in Denver the week before and was unused to the 90 degree heat.

Some Cynthia quotes after the semi:

Reporter: What's your record?
Doerner: I'm not doing that great
Reporter: What's your rank?
Doerner: I don't think I'm anything
Reporter: Have you any plans to beat Chris tommorow?
Doerner: That's my secret. (to the laughs of the press)

Martina: I was just too tired. The surface was too hard on my feet. And I didn't move well.

Despite the lack of big names (only Evert and Navratilova are top ten class) the event has a sold-out crowd of 4,750 on finals day. Doerner tries to use slices short to Evert's backhand. It does no good, and after leading 2-0 in the second set she takes only 1 more game.
