Summary by Andrew Tas

The most dominant figure in womens tennis for the past decade, Moody, was missing due to injury and so Round stepped up and became the first British woman to win Wimbledon since Kitty McKane in 1926. Jacobs had a good year with losses to Round in the Wimbledon final, to Scriven in the French final but then winning the US Championships (She also won the Italian Champs). Sperling won the German while Palfrey was runner-up at the US Championships. At the Wightman Cup America defeated England 5-2 with Palfrey and Jacobs both defeating Round and Scriven during singles play.
